I found a 03, from the same dealer, with closer to 60k miles, cloth, EX with a sunroof for $1k less than the 02 I'm looking at. Difference? the 02 is certified with 100,000 mile warranty, FULLY loaded and has a v6. the 03 is almost out of warranty, isn't fully loaded and is only a 4cylinder.

I like both models.
I personally like the 03 gen look more. But apparently if you've seen many people's comments on it, the rear end isn't too favorable to most.
But for one year older, he may get a body style that he likes more, and he gets a warranty that he may not get from going private party.
I'd personally go for the 03' one though.

I like that one too.. and its not a bad deal.... but I'd like the warranty with it. One major failure out of warranty could cost much more than the $$ I'm saving.. Can you find me a car like that for that price, certified and from the largest honda dealer in the area?

I don't know much about warranties on buying private party, but are you sure it doesn't transfer over to the second owner?

the warranty on honda's is 3 year/36,000 miles... that car has 34k miles on it. almost out of warranty. the 02 I can drive for the next three years under warranty...

Are you keeping this car for a long time or only a few years till you can get a better car? If you're going to keep this car for a long time, don't buy a 4 year old car. I don't care if it has warranty till 100K. The safety features alone on those older vehicles make it worth investing in a new long term vehicle, along with less maintenance issues. We did some Honda shopping not that long ago and the dealers were itching to move new Accords off the lot, the Civics are the hot sellers right now. You can probably get a new Accord Ex I-4 for near $20K, if not then the trim level below that. While I wasn't impressed with the I-4 5-speed auto, it was a nice engine and with a manual I'm sure would liven up nicely. Also people routinely get 26-30MPG city driving on those engines; you'll be lucky to get 20MPG with that old V6.

It is too expensive. Ignore the goodie goodie options and buy a more practical car, or get them to drop the price even more. If this is a short term car, it wouldn't be as bad; as it will hold its value better than any other used car you can buy and will have warranty till you can buy another car. But again, that's a lot of money to sink into a car that old.

watch out for Honda Auto tranny for V6, 02 is a bad year and IMO thats too expensive for a questionable design.

i looked up some of the suits on honda about that... 02 was exempt because they fixed the problem that was causing all weak trannies...

$18k sounds really steep, but I own a 99 EX V6 sedan and I love it to death. Reliable as hell, great power and comfort.

its under the KBB value... i know it seems steep, but its a fully loaded car and has very little miles on it...

Wow. Back in 2003, I was quoted $20k+ ttl for new loaded 2002 EX v6 coupes w/leather.

I was still in college back then (read: broke), plus I wanted a 5-speed (v6's only came in auto), so I didn't bite. Looks like it holds its value well though.

Okay, if you aren't going to listen to anyone's advice why don't you just buy the car??? If it's SUCH a great deal and WAY below KBB, why don't you just BUY the thing!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update

I put $500 down on that car last thursday to hold it and decided to take the weekend to think it over.. Saturday night at work, i was checking the dealer's autotrader listings and I found a car almost exactly like the 02... it's a 2000, has 20k more miles, but it has a body kit on it (something i wanted), and it had some other enhancements as well... With the 02, I was thinking $18k for the car, plus $1000 or so for the body kit, $400 to get it lowered, a $300 for a new headunit, etc.. This one has all that, and they were asking $15k instead of $18k... I went in there with $2500 cash, put it down on the 2000, and financed it later that night.. There's a bit that I want to do to it, like a stronger alternator, stereo upgrades, etc, but otherwise its exactly what i wanted. As I said, they were asking $15.2k for it, and I told the sales guy that I was willing to pay $13k, hoping that they would come down a bit on the price.. Well the sales guy (steve) talked to the sales manager and told him i was walking off the lot and going to the next closest honda dealer to buy a different car if they didn't sell it for $13k. The sales manager said ok, so I got the car for $13k. =)

well the guy who traded in the car kept the rims on it.. the dealer had some acura rsx rims laying around, so they put them on...

It looks alot better in person..

Well 13k for that other one sounds like a fair deal. Who ever would spend 18k on a 4 year old Honda is nuts.

My roomate has an 02 Accord with like 60k miles on it that she does not take care of. She wants to trade it in for another car and thinks she can get 17k for it. It made me lol

Automatics make baby Jesus cry 🙁

2 years older, 66% more miles, and 2k cheaper? 3-4k cheaper if you count the used upgrades....

Does this also have the 100k mile warranty and 12 month warranty? If not, 2 yrs older, 66% more miles (20k more), and lacking as good of a warranty seems like a harsh trade for 2-3k

but like was said above, your car, your call.

You were willing to pay almost $18K for an 02 and ended up paying $13k for the one you got? I do hope that we put some serious sense into you. 😛

But congrats on the car. It was probably flogged during it's lifetime though, hope the dealer offered a warranty of sorts.
