Should I buy the Canon Rebel XTi? or the XT?

There's other upgrades on the XTi besides the LCD. It's 10MP (vs. the XT's 8), has 9-pt AF (vs. the XT's 7), and a better burst mode.

That being said, it's all up to you. Personally, I love my XT and if I were in your situation, I would get the XT and save money for nicer lenses.

I know about all those upgrades, and the only one that matters to me is the LCD size ... so that's why I ask

QFT

I have the XT and the money would be better spent on a nice lens.

I miss my Digital Rebel. I think it ended up in better hands though as I just didn't make good use of it.

Here's a pic of my friend's pirahna I took with the kit lens. Text

Well, since that's all that matters to you, maybe you should tell us if it's worth it 😛. Since you discard any other changes and enhancements, IMO, $200 isn't worth 0.7" of LCD space.

I agree, $200 isn't really worth it for the space. It is very nice to have though. The AF sensor, however, is very much worth it to me (presuming I didn't already have an XT).

i have both with battery grip and i like them they both take nice pics but you can buy the best glass if you cant shoot they wont be any good.

I like my XT but I wish the display screen was bigger. I would definitly get the XTi if I was you.

how much are you guys paying for the either model? I was going to buy the XT with lens kit but is the 18-55mm lens crap? BTW I'm a newb getting into DSLR

Yeah, that lens is pretty bad.

Quick question if I may...

My brother just bought an XTI with the lens kit and we cannot use the damn thing.

Most pictures I take are blurry, and I get a "busy" message most of the time between shots.

It's paired with a 100X CF 2GB card.

Also, is there a way to use a "live view" on the screen?

dSLRs only allow for pictures to be framed using the viewfinder.

I had the same choice, but I went with the XT. It was cheaper and the small extra features of the XTi weren't worth $150+ to me.

I've heard that the Rebel series was a little under-featured compared to slightly higher level Canon cameras (like the 20D). How is this so? I'm just curious.

30D vs XTi

30D has spot metering. XTI does not
30D is built out of metal *magnesium?*, Xti is plastic. Shutter also has a higher MTBF on the 30D..
30D can shoot ISO 3200, XTI maxes out at 1600
30D has 8.2MP sensor, XTi has 10.1
30D can shoot low light with less noise ( due in part to less mega pixel sensor, also higher ISO as listed above )

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

Edit forgot one

30D can shoot faster, 5 fps vs 3fps I believe.

Some SLR's have "Live View" features now, like the Olympus SLR line and the Canon EOS-1D Mark III.

Don't forget better viewfinder as well. An often overlooked but important aspect IMO. The XT/XTi feel like you're shooting while looking through a tunnel.

Hey, at least it's not an original rebel. Mine is very frustrating in low light. Add on that I wear glasses, it's hard to focus (I like to use MF sometimes). It's one reason I had considered switching to nikon.. their viewfinders are far better IMO (at least up to the 30D anyway, vs say a D80).

But better high ISO performance is what I want... so I haven't switched, and am waiting patiently for the 40D... so people will offload the 30D 🙂
