should i buy altec lansing 5.1 or another?

i've had my ATP3 for a while, and they've served me very well for the past couple of years.
the thing that has changed however is that doom3 will be coming out with full on dolby 5.1 so i'll need new speakers.

are the altec lansing 5100s any good?
anything comparably priced?

P.S. the one thing that bugs me about the ATP3 is that it seems to have a lot of line noise. i can hear a hum when the computer is off.
 
I did not like the sound of the 5100, midrange seemed very weak. Anyways best thing to do is listen to a few types and choose. Take your own music or games if that is what you want. Many reccomended 5.1 systems are very heavy on the base, which is good for games and some types of music. I have monsoon 505h which I got on super sale - so maybe they have quit making them. I like them, but they are not for everyone as not great for real high volume and sub woofer is definately subdued compared to many systems.
