Should I buy a optical mouse?

Is there any reasons I wouldn't want to go with a optical mouse? Also, who makes the best optical mouse, Microsoft or Logitech? And what about these new dual laser mice? I seen a mouse by Logitech that had two lasers and the box said something about two lasers being better then one.

Go with the logitech. It's better fitted for your hands.

I regret purchasing this microsoft POS optical mouse.

I've used them both, you can't go wrong with the logitech mouseman duel optical or intellimouse 3.0 or explorer.

They are all good mice so get the one that feels the best. Optical mice or optic/ball mice have more precision and accuracy than standard mice. Basically it makes your cursor arrow move smoother and helps in games.

The only problem I've had with optic mice is that if a hair gets into the hole where the lense is, the mouse will jitter. An easy fix is blowing into the hole which I find myself doing at least once a month. An issue could be consumption of power, and that the mouse emits a red glow that you may not want when watching a movie in the dark.

I used to be a die hard Razer Boomslang fan. My 1st one broke about 1 1/2 years ago & I tried the optical path-I hated both the Microsoft version & the logitech version so I bought another boomslang. Well, my second razer broke a few weeks ago so I tried the new versions of the optical mice that were available. I 1st bought the Microsoft Intellimouse & I hated it right away-the movement seemed the same as the last version I tried(the onscreen cursor never seemed to move as easily as my Boomslang made it move) & the smooth/slippery surface of the mouse didnt fare well with my hand. Well, I returned it & bought the dual optical from Logitech & I havent looked back since. Its onscreen movement is very similair to my Boomslang & the mouse fits well & feels great in my hand.

I personally prefer Logitech.. the ergonomics and reliability of their mice are 2nd to none. I think they are the best in the industry for mice..

Another vote for Logitech,my Optical Mouseman Wheel(blue one) has been excellent in gaming no lag etc,if you want the best Logitech then yes go for the Dual optical model.

🙂

I find the Intellimouse 3.0 fits my hand better. I have a Logitech Cordless mouseman optical on the desk behind me and it's not as ergonomic.

Trackball mice are soooo last century. Ive tried many diferent trackball mice and had trouble with all of them.

I have 2 optical mice

the microsoft

I use for my desktop and i love it. fits my hand nice never mises a movement. is sensitive and light.
Some people dont like opticals because they are much lighter. This makes no sense to me. But then i have no trouble with motorskills so i can make accurate movements with a light touch rather than reliying on increased tension of a heavy rollerball.

The memorex.

why doesnt anyone ever mention this brand? i think I bought it from bestbuy for $12. It is very similar to the microsoft and i use it on my laptop (touch pads make me violent). has a slightly diferent feel because the wait is more centered in the middle but most people wouldnt even notice this. I use it at school on my pant leg or the floor or a desk or wherver I can find a surface while im siting down using my laptop.

the great thing about optical is they work on any surface. however my desk is kinda grainy and i hate the feel of it sliding across, so i still use a mouspad for the dektop.

unhappy about MS intellimouse explorer. first one died out on me. now im using a logitech cordless optical mouseman, very nice except some lag in FPS gaming. so maybe your best bet it the dual optical mouseman.

I have the original Microsoft Intellieye Explorer and it's still going strong after two years of constant and heavy usage. It's by far the best mouse I've ever used, including for extensive 3D gaming.

The first optical I had was the MS Intellimouse with intellieye (not the explorer.. and the first generation model). Anyhow.. it was a BIG step up from the cordless logitech I had.. but in counter-strike it wasn't very good (or any 1st person shooter). About a month or so ago the thing started acting up and disconnecting itself and I had to re-connect the usb connector like every 10 minutes. I bought a logitech optical from best buy (the blue one with the clear base... 2nd generation) and it ROCKS. I wanted the dual optical but it was too much. I paid $39.99 for this one and even that was alot, but all in all it's worth it. The shape of the mouse though I would prefer the MS shape.. but this thing is SO PRECISE in games. If I'm a sniper in CS I can just touch the mouse and it'll go just a fraction to the left (that's good!)... with the MS mouse it would go alot more to the left and I couldn't aim as effectively. Hope this helps.

Intellimouse Explorer 3.0

The Intellimouse Explorer 3.0's sensor scans your desktop more times per second than any other mouse's LED. The latest wired version 3.0 is awesome, it gets my vote and has already got my money.

Yep, MS' Explorer 3.0 sensor takes 6000 images per second, that's leaves everyone in the dust. I personally find the Explorer to be better ergonomically, but the Logitechs to be better weight-wise(I like its heaviness). But MS definitely has the edge in sensor speed, and they have one more button which I find it very useful. But why take anyone's word for ergonomics? You go to a store and feel them with your own hand, no one can tell you which one is better for your hand.

The new MS mice take 6000 shots per second but will only do 400dpi(or as some call it:cpi). The new logitechs do 2000 shots a second but have an 800dpi/cpi rating. Some claim that gives the dual optical a 1600dpi rating(800X2), but I dont know if that fact really holds water.

MS needs to redesign their wheel. It's very clunky. Have you taken one apart? No wonder! Plastic POS! :|

Anyway, the BEST optical mouse BAR NONE has got to be the Logitech MouseMan Optical Dual. It has the most accurate tracking with dual sensors. It's a very unique design and most people either love it or hate it. The design fits my hand perfectly and I can use it for hours without fatigue. The scroll wheel also has a very nice feel to it.

IMO, they should just stop making mice with balls! Especially when you can get generic optical mice with two buttons for under $10!

Cheers!

I'll toss my vote in for the MS Intellimouse. I tried the MS wireless optical explorer 3.0, but it didn't feel right in my hand for gaming. So I took it back and stuck with the intellimouse. A friend of mine uses the Logitech wheel optical and I absolutly hate that thing. Anyway, Going optical is my all time favorite upgrade and improved my gaming experience 10 fold.
