I love seeing gibs fly as much as the next guy, but Super Mario Sunshine is still a fun game. But, if hating "kiddie" games lets you and your little boyfriends pretend you're adults, that's fine with me.
Took the words right out of my mouth. I'm certain he's a very "mature" 15-20 year old.

Anyways, GC has lots of great games, many of which were mentioned. I must say that Smash Bros. & Monkey Ball 1&2 are great 4 player games. :D Metroid is one of, if not THE, best single player games on any console right now....and yes, I own all 3 current systems.

Seeing the games listed here that are considered "great"....there really isn't that many or a "lot", but there certainly is a few and they are great. Also Microsoft is considering buying up Sega now...if that happens all Sega games leave the other systems and stay on the X.

LoL...GheyCube Fanbois of the World Unite!!! I'm 25 years old and the reality is, most of my friends have either outgrown video games or were never very fond of them to begin with. I'm not living in the frat house anymore where there's 35 other people to play Bond, Mario Kart or Bomberman 64 all the time, its just a reality. I've stuck to PC gaming for the last 4 years since college b/c it offered what nothing else could until now, multiplayer support without physically having the people in the same room. 99.9% of my gaming time is spent alone or online; if I'm hanging out with friends on weekends, we're watching sports and pre-gaming before we go out. None of them own a game system other than myself.

Now obviously our idea of fun is very different. I'm not into running around "R.E.M. Shiny Happy I'm a Teletubby Land" looking for the next "Power Mushroom" or sliding down Rainbows like a CareBear Cupcake. I like games that mimic the movies I watch, and guess what? Movies like Babe and A Toy Story may be excellent movies, they're just not my cup of joe. I'd rather snipe a guy from 200 meters away than run up to him with a polka-dot colored mallet and a cheesy grin. Since when does a mature title equate to gratuitous violence? If you believe that, you're probably a tree-hugging hippy or you read into all the media hype about violence in games. The game that made me finally buy an XBox is Splinter Cell, and you can't even kill anyone half the game.

"Mature" titles in my opinion are when games say and do what they mean without having to sugar coat it. (you never kill anything in Nintendo games, you simply "pop" them and any type of romance is depicted with a swelling heart and blushed cheeks or 2 characters holding hands with corny dialogue.) Now, if you like content being filtered and censored that's fine, but as an adult , I think I can decide for myself what I deem to be appropriate for my viewing. He asked what system he would prefer and I still think it would be an XBox. I knew I was done with Nintendo after the N64, so why would I buy a GC when 1/2 the "must-have" titles are what drove me away from N64 to begin with?

If you want to play Monkey Balls 1 and 2 with your "little boyfriends" that's your prerogative.

Ah, you're one of those "mature" 25 year old types then.

Elemental007 said he wanted "'mindless' games....stuff you do with your friends while you're chillin with a beer"

The Gamecube definitely provides that 'mindless' fun with many games. Just because you don't kill stuff doesn't mean there's no way to have fun.

Different strokes for different folks I guess

First of all, I'm not a fanboy. As I said in my previous post, I own all three systems. The fact that you wrote all that about somebody purchasing a videogame console you don't like really says alot about your so-called "adulthood." Pretty sad.

You know, you said you don't like the style of games available on the Gamecube, and that's fine. But this sort of petty potshot gives me serious doubts about the maturity you're so gung-ho about claiming to possess.

I gave him a recommendation based upon the titles he was interested in. "Mindless" games don't equate to "one button speed-tapping games meant for children". I guess making generalizations about people b/c they have differing opinions is a true sign of "adulthood".

what compelling reason is there to buy an xbox?
the vast majority of xbox titles are either:
a: Pc ports (which id rather play on the pc)example $50 for serious sam? wtf???? it was $20 new for the pc.
b:3rd party shovelware that is available on every other system.

so far my xbox has been a big disappoinment.

There is no such thing as a Kiddie game IMO if you really think gaming is limited by age, i feel sorry for you cause you are missing out on Some amazing games.

In all honesty i had to have all the consoles to play the games that were exclusive to each system, Because i did not have access to all 3 platforms. you seem to have access to a ps2 and an Xbox so i would suggest completing the lineup and getting the cube, You can always swap systems for a while with your brother or friends.

Oh really? How about this Kiddie game you will never see on XBox???. :Q

XBox currently has Splinter Cell and MechAssault (the two games I purchased with it), which no other system offers. Not only that, but adding in the ability to go online with Live for any of the Sega Sports titles and games like Ghost Recon essentially make them "exclusive" titles. I didn't buy XBox for the titles available right now, but for what is going to be available in the very near future. Its got superior hardware, the only functional online gaming method, and its library of games is only going to increase. Plus there are must have games on the horizon like Halo 2 and SC: Ghost which will be XBox only.

I have played metroid prime and it is excellent, but its the only compelling reason I would buy a GC. Hell I may buy one anyways, its only $99 AR nowadays. Just got a bad feeling I'm gonna be throwing my money away again like with N64.

SC: Ghost is going to be cross-platform, not an XBox exclusive.

i had gamecube. i wanted the fun without the violence and gore. mario sunshine was fun at first. i was over halfway through until it got frustrating. for those of you who've played it, how long did it take you to get the watermelon onto the boat? that darn thing pops when it hits ANYTHING. and those puzzles where you gotta get to the other side while the ground is spinning and stuff. those are frustrating as well. great graphics, though, but that is the only game i can comment on since that is the only game i played on gamecube before i got rid of it. i got a ps2 afterward. what was my reason for getting rid of gamecube?

at the time, there was no metroid prime. i've never played metroid either, so i didnt feel like i was missing out on anything (but after seeing the reviews, dang). zelda i wanted to play, but it wasnt enough to make me keep the gamecube. i enjoy playing rpgs, so i got ps2 for kingdom hearts and maybe final fantasy. another thing about gamecube is that i read that the controller just isn't good for fighting games. i wanted to get dragonball z budokai and marvel vs capcom 2.

even though i wanted fun without the gore, i figured maybe i could find that in the ps2. jak and daxter might have that for me.

i just reread ur first post and realized i'm not answering your first post so i'll stop rambling.

if ur roommate has a ps2, why do u need to get one for urself? or are u two separating.
if u wanna play with friends, go for the gamecube. 4 player support, best for the groups.
