Should I buy a dell now, or wait?

Two suggestions when you do order your 700m:
1) Don't be cheap, upgrade to the 2 year at-home warranty it's only +$100 more
2) Get the 8 cell battery, roughly 4.5-5 hours of battery life

$750 off 1500 tomorrow and if they forget to pull the $300 rebate some people are going to get some crazy deals

too bad I can't join in on the fun though cuz I just got me a new 330i 😎

why would they forget to take off the rebate? If they did, someone would probably lose their job.

it has happened before and according to dell the rebate runs until 6/8/05 until 11 am CST so it should still be there tomorrow but they have pulled them early before

Dell coupons are alive now.

If you want a fully decked out 700m with 3 year on site warranty then now is the time to buy.

It has been cheaper in the past though.

actually they've dropped the warranty down to 2 yrs now -- so you can get it for 100 less. I just picked one up -- not as hot a deal as some have been in the past but i'm still very satisfied.

I wish i could have jumped in on the small business deal yesterday afternoon.

Can you give us the breakdown of your system w/ total price, Ralli?

One of my friends wanted to get a 700M as well and I told her to wait for the next $750 off coupon deal. This was on Sunday, but her mom wanted her to order it in case the $300 rebate ran out and now the $750 is active today 🙁 I re-did the system she bought and with the $750 off coupon it came out to be around $1200 with 2 year warranty and 2 year accident warranty. There have been better deals in the past but today's wasn't bad at all.

Kept all the specs at their default setting, except for the 8cell battery instead of the 4cell. Also kept the memory at 256 mb, I?ve got 512mb on the way from another company. (much cheaper that way)

700m
XP Home
256mb
40g HD
8x dvd-r
8cell batter w/ free 64m keychain usb memory stick
2yr at home warranty

$1536
-$750 (coupon is still active, btw)

total: $786

definitely not as hot as those past deals -- but for a computer that justs need to be small and light to carry around and do some basic word processing and email -- i think it's a pretty good deal. Would i have rather traded the warranty for some other hardware upgrades... probably, but thats just how life is.

My Dell 700m was purchased around 2 weeks ago on May 23, 2005 from Dell Home Office.

jpeyton's deal is better than mine with more RAM and larger HD for $5 less. However mine has 2 year on site warranty. I suspect he got in on the recent Dell SB deal which is now dead. jpeyton and I live in Oregon which has 0% sales tax 🙂

Yup, yesterdays SB deal.

What cracks me up is that Dell consistently offers the most for your money, laptop wise, yet people are getting so used to their hot deals that even a relatively good one gets put through the wringer.

For example, even today's $750 off deal was pretty good (although not as good as yesterday's SB deal). But if you look at the thread on FW, it was page after page of slamming on Dell. But the way I see it, there is no other vendor who will sell you a nicely loaded widescreen Pentium M laptop for even close to $750.

jpeyton,

Did you see the Dell Small Business $400 off $1499 Latitude notebooks coupon?

Here is a review of my dream laptop, the Dell Latitude D610.
  • Intel® Pentium® M Processor 730 (1.60GHz) 14.1 SXGA+,Intel GMA900
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition, SP2, with media
  • Free upgrade! 512MB 400MHz ,DDRII SDRAM, 2 DIMMS - Dual Channel
  • 60GB Hard Drive, 9.5MM, 5400RPM
  • Free! 24X CDRW/DVD Combo
  • Microsoft ® Office Basic Edition 2003 and Adobe Acrobat 6.0
  • Dell Wireless? 1370 802.11b/g WLAN miniPCI Card
  • 6 Cell Primary Battery
  • 3 year mail-in economy warranty

$1,503 price as configured above
-$400 off coupon code
==============================
$1,103

But I'm happy with my 700m and I actually like the 12.1" WXGA display, it's beautiful. Besides it's $400 cheaper and has a DVD Burner.

Haven't looked at the Latitude lineup to be honest. Except that super thin model; that looked pretty cool, but I don't know if I can give up having a built-in optical drive.

I know that I never could.

I may be travelling this summer and the 8 cell battery + DVD will help a lot.

Missed that about the Laptop , but anyway . . Dell's not the best, and their glut market price is a tease.

Personally I usually (used to) recomend the Dell as a laptop, but I find them to be lacking.
Dell

A better product would be the Toshiba

From Newegg - it might be less.

Take your best shot, find a deal.

i disagree, and i know many here also disagree, but to each their own.

Everyone loves our 9200 Dell laptop, but it's too big to be a great portable. Would be nice as a desktop replacement to switch rooms around a house, but as a traveller 🙁

Personally my brother has the budget for any machine, he went with a 12" Powerbook and the 23" Cinema screen for his G5. My wife likes a laptop...she wants an iBook in 17" format, biggest they have is 14.1", she likes white stuff, it's a japanese thing.

My problem is she runs XP in Japanese, with a Japanese keyboard...I don't really know Japanese more than enough to just get them to take off their clothes. I don't know apple that much either since the ][ and //e days and a Powerbook 233 or something when having a color laptop was rare.
