Should I buy a better fan/heatsink?

I have a Thunderbird 1100Mhz Retail Boxed with retail heatsink/fan. Should I replace the cooler with a better one, such as a fop32 or just buy some Artic Silver to replace the pink bubblegum looking stuff on it?

Just wondering how well the Retail fan/heatsink actually works in comparison to a fop32 or something similar. The only overclocking it could get is if I upgrade to a KT133A motherboard and run it at 1130 or 1200.

Thanks

Forgot to add that my Pro2A shows the cpu temp at 41c. I know this is inaccurate, but it's all I have to go on.

The retail sink is the taisol cek733092. UPgrading to a FOP32 will improve performance, but at the cost of noise. Not sure if you'd get that much more overclocking switching heatsinks, though.

Maybe I should just stay with the retail heatsink/fan combo and add some artic silver?

I don't really care about overclocking.

You could definately try that... Depends on whether you are planning on removing the heatsink or not, because if you do the pad is pretty much useless.

Thanks Mike. I had to take the heatsink off anyway when I sent my motherboard back to rma land.

I Think I'll just order some artic silver and call it good.

Hey, your bios chip was gone via live bios, right?
You getting it fixed free?
One question, your hs has Taisol sticker on it, or just black sticker with Athlon 1100mhz written?

tjdavis: has the retail HSF improved regarding noise? my retail HSF on an athlon 650 is incredibly loud and emits a very annoying whine, i'm hoping that amd and/or taisol have resolved this

Allstarshop is replacing it, not sure if I'll have to pay or not?

It says AMD and has a set of numbers on it. 40042532

I didn't notice it being loud at all. No whine or anything, but I have an Antec SX-830 with four antec fans so they tend to mask alot of noises.

RyanP,

I think the socket-a stock heatsinks(fans) are quieter than the SLotA heatsinks(fans) are.

I am just wondering... why change the heatsink at all if you are not overclocking? Having lower temps won't improve performance worth diddly. Unless it is a crappy fan, then stability might improve. BUT with an AMD approved heatsink you don't have anything to worry about at all whatsoever with heat.

I didn't know if 41c was too high or not. At the very least I'll have to buy some thermal grease to put between the heatsink and cpu, since I had to send the board back.
