Should I buy a 2005fpw?

Reasons for:

- I don't own a TV--only pci tuner (digital cable hooked up to svideo input on TV Wonder.)
- Currently only have a 17" LCD that has a bad hum, low contrast, bad viewing angle
- I'm in NY so I don't have to pay tax
- Just got my student loan check and tax refund
- I'm an HDTV torrent freak (its my version of Tivo)

Reasons against:

- Do I really want to run at 1600x1050 resolution? Won't that hurt my eyes?
- Stretched out games? Current vid card/rig can't handle gaming at native res, but then again I don't play many games (only HL2/CS:Source currently)
- What about upgrading rig? Buying monitor will blow budget set aside for mobo, cpu, vid card upgrades.
- I still don't have an internship for summer...not earning money...I should be saving and not spending loan money on luxuries!

what video card do you have and cpu

Radeon 8500LE 128MB and Athlon XP 2000+ (stupid old K7s5a mobo)

I recently just upgraded RAM to 1GB DDR400 (underclocked on this mobo of course), and had begun to set aside money for these:

- ASUS A8N-E
- 3000+ "Venice"
- Leadtek 6600 PCI-E

do a search for widescreen gaming fourms (the site is something like widescreengamingforums.com or close to that). They have lits of games that can be widescreen enabled. Games that are all-ready good to go include Doom 3, HL2, CS:S, UT 2004.

on that big of a screen 1680x1050 isn't going to be strainful. should be about the same dpi as 1280x1024 on a 17" LCD.

i'm debating the 2001fp myself.

Deal dead. Hope you decided already 🙂

damn already?

Meh, it'll be back. Remember people were saying it wouldn't go lower when it was at $490, then $450, then $430, then $390, and now $350. It will go lower, or at least come back in a similar way.

2005fpw is great, but for me personally I'm holding off until the 2405 becomes affordable (around $700 - $750 w/ coupons).

I think $350 is going to be the lowest for a while. Until LCD become the absolute norm at least. I'm using the 2001 as a point of reference.

Including desk space, size, heat production, and power consumption?

Not all of us can fit a huge CRT on our desks 😛
