I'm going to have a Soyo Dragon +.....eventually, but prices as they are now(which i'm sure will change in the next two weeks it takes me to make up my mind) the Duron 1.3ghz is the same price as an Athlon 1.2ghz......but i'm sure the Duron will fall quite a bit, the athlon has been pretty stable in price.....suggestions?

The Athlon can be an easy o'clock, just don't expect a huge overclock with the Duron. I got a 1GHz Morgan Duron and I can only o'clock it to 1.22GHz. Anything above that is a black screen.

I dont know how others are faring, but my Duron 1g does not like to run at 133 FSB. Richardito is right about the Duron o/c, 1.2 is the max for thge 1g

Yours don't like the 133MHz FSB speed? Strange, mine can take a FSB speed of 149MHz.

I'm running a 1ghz Morgan@7.5x150=1125mhz@default voltage and it's been going 24/7 crash free for a month+ now. As far as the choice however, The Morgan has some nice enhancements( data prefetch, SSE, improved power and heat features) and since it's a 100mhz higher to start with might prove a better value despite it's smaller cache if the price falls somewhat as you've conjectured.

When I had my 1ghz Morgan in a K7S5A I just ran it@110fsb CPU/146.6FSB Ram@default voltage using CPUcool since 112FSB wasn't stable and I didn't feel like penciling the L7s and it would run to hot for my present HS/F. The next available FSB was 124mhz which since the K7S5A doesn't allow multiplier changes would mean 1.24ghz which most can't get a 1ghz Duron to do on a good overclocking board. You would do well to wait on your Dragon+ so you can push up the FSB and drop the multiplier so you can get the best performance overall from it. I will probably drop the multiplier farther on mine so I can get a higher overclock while maintaining 150FSB once I get a better cooler for it so I can up the Vcore. BTW, I use a AK31A with mine.

Why pay $80 for a Duron when you can get an Athlon XP 1700+ for under $30 more?

I thought my Duron didnt like 133 FSB......turns out I had a stick of memory going bad and caused a lot of I/O errors and data corruption errors. It just also coinsides with my changing motherboards, so I was blaming everything else. Took out the stick of memory and she is running very well.

My Morgan Duron is now very happy doing 9x133=1200mhz :)
soon to push higher after I learn my way around this abit KT7A

just so you guys know...
i have my duron 950 runing without a problem at 9.5x139 with my k7s5a.
i had it lowered to 9.5x133 before... 'cause i didn't have my asIII handy.
but man... i'm loving my duron... i know it's only spitfire... but hey... for the money... i can't get anything faster... i think.

i should really put this in my epox 8kha+ and test out it's max cpu speed.
with k7s5a... it's difficult to oc.

i have a feeling it can hit that 1.4 mark. (crossing my finger) :)

I guess it all depends on your luck of finding the more oc-friendly cpu. My wife's $50 1 ghz duron runs at 140 mhz (1.4 ghz) on IWill's KK266 (no bsod since the installation about a month ago). Upgrading the psu to an Enermax 350 watt may have helped also. I haven't tried pusing it past 140 but when I get bored I may try it someday.

Dude, I don't know WHAT kind of chip or cooling you have, but most people can't get their duron 1.0s past 1.2. I know I can't!!

As far as getting a 1.3, personally, I wouldn't. Spend the $30 more and get a 1700+.

On the up side, I will say that the duron 1.0s and up (morgan core) ROCK! I've been VERY impressed with mine. I've been running mine at 8.5x133 (1133) since day 1, and it's been kickin booty. I went up to 1.2, and got some lockups, so I took it back down. I blame that to the crappy HS/ quiet fan I've got on there. I sleep in the same room!

The problem is i'm on a VERY tight budget, i'm getting a new mobo and new ram to go with it, and i'm not working right now....i'm going to get some from selling off my old parts hopefully, but i'm still going to be tight...

$80? I got my 1Ghz M.Duron for $46and it can overclock to 133FSB+ to reach 1215MHz. Pretty good price/performance ratio...:D
