Should I bust this girl for jacking my lab work ? (with proof)

So I'm browsing through the labs of the other people in my "intro to java" class and I stumble upon this girl's site that looks strikingly similar to mine. A little more research later and it's pretty obvious that she jacked my homepage and 2 of my labs. The thing is that I don't really care, I just wish she'd say something to me or give some credit. I'm not going to tell the professor or anything (I think she'll figure it out anyway), but i'm trying to decide if i should f with this girl or not. Like sending her a message saying how much I like her site and labs. What do you folks suggest ?

Oh yeah, these aren't based on a template or anything, i've been making all my class sites look like this for about 2 years. Actually, the teacher GAVE us a template to use for our homepage/labs but i just made my own.

I wouldn't let her get away with copying your stuff. It'll teach her a lesson that she'll need if she hopes to survive higher education.

This could come back to haunt you. I know in my university if two people turn in almost the same work (and if the professor doesn't allow cooperation) then BOTH fail. If rules are similar at your school, then you risk failing because she copied. I'd definately do something about it. You have several options:
1) Confront her - likely a good way to solve it without getting her into trouble.
2) Don't tell anyone but purposely code yours wrong, let her copy, and then change yours to the correct code when you turn it in. I love this option - you get an A she fails.
3) Tell the professor.

Yeha you should bust her for copying your java code at least.

meh, it's not a design class. as long as the labs are easy to find the prof don't care.

Sorry if I missed it but is there something you have to prove that you didn't copy her?

I'm not convinced.. I would speak with your professor who can better assist you. Let him/her know you are not wanting to get anyone in trouble you just want to show that you did your work. Ask if it is coincedence that your code looks very similar.

It may just be that there isn't too many ways to code it.

I haven't done programming in a long time...

But if xXgambitXx doesn't talk to the professor, the professor could assume either they're collaborating or even that xXgambitXx took the design from her.

for the labs....not really. just that i posted it first.
i have proof for the home page though because i've used that layout/commenting style for about 2 years and i still have all my old work.

She won't see the big deal if you do confront her. Just tell her to start changing the code dramatically, or you will turn her in.

Okay here is what you do.

On your next lab, add some confusing code that doesn't look out of the ordinary, but once you see she's hijacked it, take out your "extra" code.

The trick: The "confusing code" will be a logic bomb that displays a very rude message to the professor once he sees her copy. :)

Definitely. If "all your pages have looked like that" then you've got a solid enough backing to prevent any counter-accusation.

Maybe you should report it since you could be in some trouble early on with the professor if they think one of you two copied the other one.

I had to go through the 'Honor Council' during my freshman year b/c they thought one of my group partners had copied a website for our group project. It was a pain in the ass to have to sit through that, even though I knew it would result in nothing. It was a huge waste of time.

Please turn her in now before you get fvcked. The teacher could accuse you of ripping her code or doing the project together, which might violate your schools academic honesty policy
