Should I build/buy a Kegerator?

We invest in literally about 4-5 thirty packs each weekend.

Averaging $18 a 30 pack, that's $81 spent each weekend on JUST our pregaming beer (beer consumed before we go out to the bars or whatnot)

How feasible is it to buy or even build a kegerator type thing so we can just buy a $50 keg and have it last a week or so (i think they let you keep it for 10 days)

Prices on buying?
Is it easy enough to convert/build one?

"Kegerator"? My first thought was something like a cross between a vibrator and something that helps you do Kegel exercises...

Keep in mind that keg beer is smoother and goes down faster than bottled/canned beer. That keg will get the empties in a hurry.

i think kegs go for around $80/retail and there isn't that much of a markup (if any) here.

Oh the stories I could tell. . .

My friend had two full size refridgerators converted into kegerators. Fun times.

I think it was my 24th or 25th Birthday, we bought a keg of Henry's and made our own mixture in the other keg. There was whiskey, vodka and captain morgan along with 7up, cherry coke and some kind of fruit punch. I'm sure I put more of something or other in there I can't exactly remember tho'.

Boy was that party fun. Everyone was smashed. My mixed drink keg was a hit with the ladies, tasted great and fvcked you up.:D

I think all you have to do to build one is drill a hole through the side of the fridge, and a hole through the front. Get a Co2 bottle, a good regulator, the tap (for pouring from) and the keg tap.

I was just at his place last night, working on his computer for him. Lol, he still has one kegerator/fridge in his laundry room, just begging for a party . . . or 'pregaming' as you put it.:)

Make sure you get one with CO2. The cheaper models use a hand pump to get the beer out which is messy and a general pain in the ass.

Mmmmm... cold keg beer.

wtf?

$50 for a full keg is not unreasonable. But then again, mom and dad have a bar :)

You can actually buy your own. IIRC its several hundred $ though.

a buddy of mine has a kegerator its great. i was thinking of putting one in my barn.

considering we have parties all the time its very nice. we just ask people to donate some cash (usually 5-10 bucks for a night of drinking) and that pays for everything.

Can't buy kegs in Pennsylvania. Just half-kegs. (Like that's going to slow down drinking.

Does anyone have experience in building / modifying a refrigerator into a kegerator?

Is it easy enough to pull off?

They're not that expensive. My friend got one at Sears, he said it was around $600. Seems like if you're handy it wouldn't be too tough to make small fridge into one.

cheapest i've seen is about $700 online  a little over out budget

thinking about trying to find either an old refrigerator or buying a dorm size one and converting it

Fridge ~ $200
Conversion Kit ~ $150

Total: around $350 waaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper :)

Home Depot sells them also. Around $350
With some many keg sites out there I would buy one. Its hard to find a small refrigorator with just a fridge and no freezer in the top. Not as easy as it sounds to make one.
My 2 cents.

Are u sure about that? I'm from south of Pittsburgh and i KNOW i've been to a few parties with kegs, usually more than one, the big kegs.

And Spooner, a frat at school here bought an old Coke fridge, like at sheetz and retro-fitted it for kegs :). It's pretty cool, they can fit 2 kegs and with the shelves a few cases of beer.
