Should I bite the bullet and buy?

With the help of you great forum guys, I put together a nice system build to replace my five-year-old laptop. I started looking around back in June, and it's now halfway through August. If I can wait till December, will prices markedly go down on intel processors and the first gen of DX10 video cards? I was still deciding between a Q6600 and 2 gigs of ram, or an E6750 and 4 gigs of ram. Which do you guys think is more important?

Or is it worth it for the long haul (3 years without upgrading) to wait until I can afford a Q6600 and 4 gigs of ram? I'm not one to upgrade, and I can afford to wait for a better comp. Suggestions?

Thanks!

General rule of thumb is that prices always go down, but I'm not so sure that prices on DDR2 will continue to keep falling. I anticipate they'll start to creep back up as we get closer to the holidays assuming demand for new systems will peak. Black Friday could be your best bet.

@uncleenzno: I, too, was in your boots. Just buy now. Like everyone before me has said: Prices will always go down; things will always get better. Logically you can never buy at a bad time, unless the market does something crazy bad--which it isn't right now.

Go for it. Get those dual 8800s you've always dream of!

Netu, you are correct that prices always fall and the next best thing is always a few months out, but that means you should try to buy at the release of the next best thing (then either buy the previous one at a low price or the new one cheaply), if you upgrade every year its less of an issue but if you want it to last and there is a major change only a few months out you should wait for it. If he was asking in May I would have said wait for the price drop in July and buy, but since its already August and he said he can wait, he should.

Jkresh, I think I will end up waiting for Penryn and the next generation of dx10 cards as you suggested. Whether I get the new stuff, or the current stuff at a discount, I don't know yet.

Gigantopithecus, a whole bunch of people have said that RAM is going to go back up, so I went ahead and bought it. Good advice. What's black friday?

Netu, I wish I could afford dual 8800's. : )

uncleezno, yes ddr2 prices might be at their low right now but buying something months before you can use it is rarely a good idea. You should either find a friend with a board that can take ddr2 and test it out or return it.

jkresh, I purchased the RAM a few weeks ago, so it's a done deal. 2 gigs of Patriot extreme for $50 from a friend of mine who had ordered too much. I'm not worried about the RAM. Who knows though, maybe by December DDR3 will be all the rage?
