If i do, there's a good chance that i will have to move , i could be a cop where i live, but i already know thier is a lot of corruption in the law enforcement here. I was thinking of someday if i can joining the FBI once i get the ropes after a couple years. And theres always the chance that yes i could get killed by some drunk idiot who doesn't know i just pulled him over for a busted light.

It's not that I hate all cops, just the young rookie fockers who think they are god.

Like I said in your first post, join an Explorer post if your town has one and see what it's like. I have been a police explorer for about 3 years, and you really get a sence of what it's like. It's very demanding work, and you sometimes do not get much respect, but you make a difference.

If that is what you want to do, I think you should do it. Just don't be like what this guy said.

i wouldn't be one of this cops who thinks he's all high and mighty. I'd treat everyone with respect just like they should be, and i know this might sound harsh but my brother is kind of a trouble maker and i know he's going to get in trouble when he gets older, and if i have to , i will arrest him. I will never be a corrupt cop though.

cops around here are losers from high school who got picked on so they become cops so they can be dicks to people and not have to worry about someone fighting back

Where do you live? Try checking neighboring communities. I know where I live we have about 4 other posts right around us that we work with on occasion.

That's where you're needed most.

I am considering entering the field myself... Actually, my dad just bought an old Crown Vic Police Interceptor... ohh baby it's fun just sitting on the side of the road watching people hit their brakes. :D I always wear hawaiian shirts, so maybe I'll become one of those freelance cops with a gun under my shirt, sliding over hoods, etc. It's Showtime!

I kinda figured that would be my back-up if i can't make it through school with my major(a very small possibility). I'd say go for it if that's what you want.

it is a very respectable position, if you think you are up to the challenge, I would say go for it.

No.
I heard somewhere that life expectancies of cops are much lower then everyone else.
I guess it's from danger, stress, and probably donuts too :)

Ultimately it's up to the them if they will accept you. Police departments and Fire departments get tons of applicants, and only a small percentage end up being choosen. Don't stop you from trying though.

I hate the movies for making these dreams of being a cop and running around with a gun and stuff all glamourous and s#it, like...in..i dunno, training day, or us marshals and crap like that. Well...maybe not training day. I mean, there is no way in hell you can hunt fugitives every day or hunt for armed killers and run around the country without having a life expectancy of 2 days, and have it be all fun and s#its and giggles, yet i still dream of it :(. And unless you're an undercover cop, i doubt you could sport a hawaiian shirt and a .45, as cool as that would be. but even after all of that, i'm still considering some public service job, like cop or firefighter or emt or something, even though it's nowhere near as glamourous as TV shows :disgust:

Have a number friends/family in law enforcement and I recall how enthusiastic they were at the start of their career. 15 years into it the enthusiasm is gone..many are drunks. And sorry they ever got involved in law enforcement. It's a young person's job. But wears you down over time. And by the time your in your mid 40's your worn out. Not easy starting a new career at 40. So 40 year old cop's are just hanging on trying to stay alive till retirement. Many retire at 50 or by mid 50's for shure. Thank gawd those cop's are out there..but from what I hear from family and friends it's a chitty job.

If you have to ask a bunch of strangers what to do with your life, I would suggest that you back off and think about what you want to do.

What are your interests?
