should I be worried about my mail taking 2+ weeks?

I sent a seller a cash payment in a security envelope (the dealie with the zigzagged lines all over it) and its been 2 weeks and 2 days I sent it. He hasn't sent a confirmation that he recieved the payment which I asked him to do so is my cash gone for good? I know its not a generally good idea to send cash but the situation dictated the necessity. The contents were a printed page of the sale and 2 $20's. Could it be possible that the envelope was over 1 oz with those contents and got lost finding it's way back to me? People on other boards gave their stories of how they sent a payment and the person recieved it like 3-4 weeks later. For the record, the seller has great references and is trusted by everyone there.

BTW, is sending cash via USPS illegal? If so...

hrm, too late for this now, but one may consider priority w/ delivery confirmation for something worthwhile...how far away does this person live? 1st class generally doesn't take that long
