Should I be envious?

I just recently bought an E6300. With all the new chips scheduled to come out soon, should I be envious about any of them and even think about getting one instead of keeping what I have now?

A Core 2 Duo at 3.15Ghz is very fast. Unless you upgrade to quad core, no upgrade you would be getting would be significantly faster.

CPU purchases should be based on what you need, and not envy, keeping up the the Joneses, or an e-penis enhancement. If that E6300 is too slow for your needs then by all means get something better, but if done for other reasons it's really just a waste of money.

Actually for me its neither. Its more on hobby. My friends all know me as being extreme when it comes to computing. IVE already owned a QX/STRIKER combo, hated it with a passion. The technology, and 680i was still too new, and the board had massive problems.

Even my EVGA AR has massive problems. I got the A1 revsion from an advance placement RMA, so im willing to give the quads another chance. But whats wrong with having bleeding edge? I never found a reason why people hate other people with bleeding edge technology. If they can afford it, and it makes you happy, then good for you. NOW show us your benches dammit!!

If the op was bleeding edge, and his budget allows for it, then dont degrade his choice. Now if budget is the issue, then hellz no, you shouldnt be looking at bleeding edge stuff. But as for me, having your computer on that fine razor tip or near it... Thats what i want, thats what all my friends think of me as having, and until i get bored with computers as a hobby, thats where i'll always be at.

And yes ive had a 8800GTX, sold it with the QX. NO i wasnt rich enough to SLI it. But id say my watersetup is pretty much on the upper tier of regular ambient cooling, if not near the top. <im missing cathars G5 block if your wondering>

I say sell that 6300 (preferablly cheaply to me) and get yourself a nice 4mb model! ... kidding. No I think the upcoming stuff except the huge price drops on top end the bottom stuff isn't anything we haven't seen yet, E6600 already is a 4mb model so nothing new there. But the top end price drop will put those chip within commoner's reach which is a nice thing, but they don't got anything new in 4/22 price drop though, unless you waiting for their single core celeron based off core 2.

I would think you could save up your cash and get penyne later when it comes out begiiner next year that's gonna be a real uprade, huge L2 cache with new architecture improvements on the core.

granted I've had it for a while, but my 939 x2 4800+ which I paid almost $800 for can be had in a 2.5gHz AM2 flavor for $189. It's the nature of the beast.

Budget IS the issue so I guess...NO I shouldn't be looking at bleeding edge but I can't help it because that is where I desire to be.

Any idea what the specs and prices will be like on the Penryn chips?
Some links would be really nice.

That's not for any of us to determine. :) Your envy is your own business.

Stop misunderstanding me. If you want me to rephrase my question, I can and I will....

I just recently bought an E6300. With all the new chips scheduled to come out soon, should I be considering any of them and even think about getting one based on any improvement in performance, instead of keeping what I have now?

Blah.... not gonna use the auto quote:

You got issues. You need to live with it. If you cant afford the big toys, then dont look at it.

Thats why people say ignorance is a bliss. The less you know, the less you desire.

No, especially since your cpu is at least 5 times as fast as your video card. You just need to start saving up for an 8800GTS, along with a second GB of system RAM.

Well said.

In fact the RAM is already in the pipeline. I'm currently working on getting the funds together for my 2nd stick. Another few weeks and I'm good on that.

As for the video card...
I think I'm waiting to see what the upper-level-mainstream cards look like after ATI's DX10 lineup has been released. I somewhat prefer nVidia but hey...bang-for-the-buck always wins in my book!!

Who's misunderstanding anyone? Everyone else addressed that question already. I addressed the question used as the title of the thread.

They chose to respond to one of your questions. I chose to respond to another.
