Should I be angry with Amazon.com? *Update* 16 days and counting.

On August 9 I ordered four items, all in stock, and all saying "Usually ships within 24 hours." Today, ten days later I go to their site to see when my stuff shipped because I've been expecting it. I find that none of my stuff has shipped yet. I figure, no big deal, they ran out of something, and they are holding my order till they get it. So I check the four items I ordered, and they are all still listed as in stock, and all shipping within 24 hours. I'm scratching my head on this one, but the only thing I can come up with is that they suck real bad. Should I be miffed, or did I commit some grave folly by accepting their free shipping offer? Maybe they ship all their free shipping orders by river barge, and it's still on the way, and they are too embarrassed to let me track the order and find it's in the middle of the Mississippi somewhere on a raft, so they just told me it hasn't gone out yet instead. I want my books dammit:|

You get what you pay for.

If getting the books immediately was your top priority, you should have paid for some form of upgraded shipping.

If you are cheap, like most of us here, you opted for the free shipping. Now deal with it. =)

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured, it just sucks because I don't actually live near the river, so they'll probably have to find some amicable hitchhiker that happens to be heading this way to drop it off for me;) But seriously, is their free shipping usually this bad, or did they just fire the guy with the piece of paper with my order scawled on it or something?

Their system is all messed up lately. I ordered a digital camera two weeks ago that "usually ships in 24 hours". It stayed on "shipping soon" for four days, then on the fifth day I got a tracking update that said the package actually shipped the day after the order was placed. I wrote customer service and they said they just did a major software upgrade and the system is foobar.

Amazon's shipping, unlike many other sites', doesnt suck too much. So the second case seems more like it!

Thanks. It could be on the way then. I'll probably get an email the day after I get the stuff saying that it has shipped:D

Sure, go find out what they're doing with your porno books.

Yeah, my books full of hot, sexy, naked insects;)

I'm going through this myself, ordered items on 8-10, on 8-17 they said my CC was denied (doh! they still had the old number for my CC as the default, not the new number I used last order), I checked today and 2 of the items had changed from "24 hours" into "2-3 days" and "6 days" so I guess they gave my book and CD to someone else. So I cancelled those items, but my order is still not scheduled to ship until Friday (=13 days after original order).

In short, free shipping service is lousy, but at least it's "free."

Of course they did raise the price on back-catalog books and CDs to pay for the shipping (by ending the typical 10% discount) so for larger orders with "free" shipping it now costs what you used to pay for "fast" shipping. Gah.

I'm now ordering CDs from Buy.com first (much faster!) and only using Amazon for CDs buy doesn't stock.

But I'm not bitter. :)

LOL!

I didn't think Amazon held stuff because the shipping was free. Oh well, guess i won't order anything I need in the next week or two from them.

This is just like FedEx waiting a day to deliver my 3-day package because it wasn't due yet... they actually loaded it onto a truck and didn't drop it off at my house. Can you belive it?

I placed an order for a bunch of electronics on 7/31 using the $20 off $100 coupon and free super saver shipping. A few of the items shipped already (the little things I wanted), but the bulk of it, including a CD player, CD-Rs, and a mini-stereo adapter, still hasn't shipped. It's been a day short of 3 weeks since I placed the order.

Everything that hasn't shipped yet has always been "ships within 24 hours" status since I placed the order, except for the CD player which showed "discontinued" on the product info page the day after I placed my order. I'm not in a hurry for these items, but I wonder what they are going to do.

I ordered 3 items (all in stock) on 8/13 and I PAID for 2 day shipping. 2 came the next day :). The other (the one I really wanted fast) is scheduled to come today :(.

Well, after 16 days none of my items, all in-stock, have shipped yet, and I just nuked my order. I can understand not rushing to fill a free-shipping order, but it said it would only take an additional 3-5 days, and sitting on my order for 16 days before even sending it out just isn't right. Next time I'll just pay my $7 dollars and get on with life. But if they would have just said, "Look, this is slow. But not just that, it's sloooow. We might even put your order number up on the dart board and wait till someone hits it to send it out. There's a good chance that we'll all be speaking Spanish even before your order goes out. So, you still want free shipping on that?" at least I would have known where I stood. I'm sorry I was mislead.

That happens to me a lot. They load it and it just rides around all day. Sometimes I actually get my stuff on that early day though. I've gotten an order from Crucial in less than 24 hours! :)

I don't mind missing FedEx on Friday's though. I live under 10 minutes away from the station so I just go over there and pick up my packages.

anybody have the number for amazon? i got a feelling they don't even have a phone #. i ordered the v60g back on the 14th, and ordered it with 2 day shipping as well. well, the phone still isn't here, and i've found a better deal, but amazon doesn't seem to give me the option to cancel anymore, saying its in the "shipping process", even though i now have one day shipping and the delivery date is the august 28th-sep 3rd. that means the package hasn't been shipped yet, but they aren't responding to my e-mails to cancel it and i don't want to get stuck with the phone and a contract for a year if theres a better deal available. anybody know if i can return the phone without having to keep the contract?

That's so annoying! The same thing happened to me, I ordered Fedex Express Saver from Newegg, and the package was shipped out and arrived in my town early the morning of the second day, they loaded it on a truck, trucked it around all day, then at the end of the afternoon they said "package not due for delivery" on the tracking system and hauled it back to their warehouse!

They claim they don't have a phone number, but I've heard some people have been able to track it down. Otherwise, e-mail them, or else order form Buy.com, I've found their prices are often as good or better than Amazon's and they have free shipping also.
