do you know my situation? no.

I worry about a hard-drive based MP3 player. I dunno - I'd like to be able to toss my player onto the front seat of my car, or take it running and not worry about the shock rating, or the stress on the heads of the drive.

I'm going to wait until solid-state MP3 players become viable, both in terms of cost and capacity.

I would ask for some leads if my parents know of any, and I would write a thank you card to thank my parents for there encouragement & support.

Ask for money to the value of an IPod, just in case when it gets to that time you see something else you want :)

Agreed....but don't ask for "money", say gift card, seems less greedy:)

I say buy yourself a cheapie mp3/cd player, like 100 bucks or less, and spend the other 300 on fun computer stuff, like maybe a new monitor, a new printer, a cellphone, a tv tuner card, etc. That's what I'd do.

but ipod's are pretty badass, I'd love to have one, but I think they're too expensive.

O MAN!!!!!

I just checked apple's website....

Using my student discount, not only would i get $200 off a 12.1" powerbook, but i would also be eligible for a $200 rebate if i bought a 10gb Ipod (only $269 with my student discount).

In that situation i would be getting the laptop & the ipod for only $69.....

OOOOOOOOOOOO... This is gonna be a tough one!
