the guy is so young, he should be allowed to reform, make up for his mistakes. this crime is not so serious that he doesn't deserve another chance.

400 grams of heroin is a seriously large amount and is a very serious crime. It's probably a given that you've never seen a junky nor know how they "earn" the money for that poison. And I doubt it was his first transaction.

He doesn't deserve a second chance.

he should be forced to work for 10 years and the money he earns from his highest bidders can go to the foundation for a drug free singapore.
after the 10 years if he hasnt learned his lesson and is caught again, hang him.
im all about second chances

You do the crime, you do the time.

He knew the risks, he took the odds.
He lost the bet.

Time to pay the piper the pipers due........

This is insane!! Killing a guy for smuggling heroin? The punishment does not fit the crime. So he is stupid and should do some time, but not be killed. In my opinion you should only be killed if it has been proven that you purposefully took another life. BTW effee, this board is in no way a sampling of what the world as a whole thinks of your countries actions as far as laws go. From what I have read, people are outraged, but they have no idea what to do, as they no nothing they say will help. Case in point would be that kid 10 years ago who tagged some buildings in Singapore who was caned. Nothing could be done about that, and most likely nothing can be done about this. Singapore may be nice and clean, but who cares if people are afraid if they spit on the sidewalk they will be caned, or worse. I cannot see Singapore being a very big travel hotspot, or am I wrong on this?

I would like to visit Singapore some day. And nobody cared about that little hoodlum getting his behind spanked. Imagine if you were the recipient of his tags on your car(it was cars, not buildings he defaced) and I think you might think the punishment was too little.

Yep, and 400 grams! There are ~454 grams in a pound... that's a LOT of smack. :Q

The crime rates in the US are so high because liberal pansies always want to give people who have proven themselves useless to society another chance to find more victims. Why is it that whenever their is a sexual assaut on a child story on the news we find out the guy has done this before and has been let go to rape and murder this time? There are lots of loosers in this world that DO NOT deserve any kind of second chance yet they seem to end up back on the streets. I wish we had harsher sentences like Singapore myself....how long would a child rapist last over there?

bullpucky, our crime rates been going down for decades now.

we do however have a lot of illegals in our prisons

Yep, we need to start killing all criminals. It is well known that over 90% of violent criminals started their life of crime by commiting traffic violations (speeding, running red lights, etc), proving that traffic violations are gateway offenses. Hence, once we institute the death penalty for all moving vehicle crimes, we will soon be free of violent criminals!

I think you may be using heroin. 😛

How about we make selling a pound of heroin a small fine?

I don't think most of you realize how long you have to sell drugs to work up to the "pound of heroin" level. This was no first time deal.

We really wont have to worry about the punishment for selling heroin, once we implement my "traffic violators must die" policy. We'll kill them long before they climb up the crime ladder to trafficking pounds of heroin. Who's with me? We could live in a crime free society!

Statistics found that 99.8% of all murderers drank milk at least once in thier life! We must kill all cows! Every breast on every woman must be cut off!

I disagree, I think he should be given a second chance.

Interesting suggestion, but perhaps we should start with just the gateway crimes first. Since drinking milk is not yet a crime, we should first add it to the controlled substances list. Then we can kill all the offenders who violate the milk ban, further reducing our crime rate. But harming any female breast is not something I can support, playing with them has a certain therapeutic value such that a medical exception should be made.

I don't think he should be executed, particularly given that he was only in transit through Singapore at the time. I am, by the way, generally pro death penalty, but not in this case.

*looks in lab drawer*
Ah ha. A vial with 4 grams of Carfetanyl. Strongest Opiate known to man. That vial is 500 times stronger than what he had on him. Right about now, I wish I could be in Singapore with it. In darts. In a rapid fire dart gun. Killing citizens. For violating Singapore law. Thats right. All human brains manfacture certain neurotransmitters which can also be used as recreational drugs. Therefore there are all walking drug labs. Death to Singapore.
