Should fillings hurt?

Last week i just got my first dental fillings for a cavity. It's now a week later and i get dull - semi sharp pains whenever i chew on anything semi hard (like overcooked pizza crust). Is this normal or should i be calling the dentist asap?

I got a filling replaced a couple of weeks ago. It still is a little sensitive, but is getting better every day.

When I got my filling I asked my wife who had them before the same question. The pain went away with time.

It'll be odd for a while. Essentially the dentist drilled away part of your tooth until they were very close to the nerve endings. Your teeth are not used to a foreign object of a completely different composition being in this location. Just wait until you drink something really cold.

If it still hurts after a month or so, call your dentist.

To the contrary, I have a mouthful of fillings and crowns. I have never experienced the problems you're describing after getting a filling.

Yeah, I had 7 fillings over my lifetime (yeah, I know) and never had a single issue. Maybe it's because I have good old lead fillings. Yum.

If they didn't have to kill the nerve, it can be very sensitive for up to a month. Entirely normal.

Yeah i've learned that already in the past week.

depends how much someone has to fill you with....maybe a little lube?
