... opening up a can of worms. Once one type of expression is sufficiently limited, all others would have to follow by the same rules.

Nah. Like the KKK, it's better to let them do what they want out in the open and be exposed to the light as the morons they are, rather than force them to exist underground and create an aura of mystery around the group.

Defining cult is simple.

I'll be more specific. What separates a cult from religion? In my opinion - nothing, but I'm sure someone will disagree. Hence the problem, who's interpretation should we accept?

Telling people not to devote their life to a lost cause is a far cry from making them put a seatbelt on so they don't get killed and run up my insurance.

A cult doesn't even have to be religious. By it's definition, a "Jessica Alba Fan Club" could be interpreted as a cult.

1 person has an idea: He is crazy.
2 people have an idea: They are lovers.
10 people have an idea: They are friends.
100 people have an idea: They are a cult.
10000 people have an idea: They are a religion
1000000 people have an idea: They are a society.

Oh, gotcha. Feedom goes both ways as long as it doesn't drive up your insurance. Why didn't you just say so?
