I for one think the rest of us would benefit from California being set free.

The US would lose a ton of tax money if California was independent. They send out much more tax money than they receive from the federal government. Also, they're a big chunk of our GDP.

If the US were split up into a Pacific coastal country of Cali, Oregon, and Washington, a western country, a southeastern country, a midwestern country, and a Northeastern one, only the northeastern and Pacific coastal countries would be really rich. There are a ton of shitty southern states that are just dead weight welfare queen parasites on the rest of the country.

The rest of the US is lucky to have us, fuck the rest of the states. California's like 100mb Internet, the rest of the countries like dial up.

As a Californian I say yes! Fuck you assholes in the flyover states where most of our tax dollars get spent. You want to lose the 8th largest economy in the world? Be my guest.

California rocks even though I've never been there. Maybe I'm wrong? Beautiful beaches, newegg, and Hollywood come to mind. Nice scenic motorcycle riding.

Huh? 😕 You have to pay tax for stuff you buy from Newegg here D:

What is stopping Cali from going off on its own?
Because the North won the Civil War :awe:

My History professor said something about moving out of California—she says she's outta here when her house sells. Is it really THAT bad in California? She advises my class to GTFO of Cali when we finish our education 😕

If Cali was to bail; think of all the Federal money that would be lost.

Defense contractors would have to leave
Military bases would close.
Civilian research labs that are owned by the Feds would leave (Livermore Labs as an example).

Where would Cali get the money to repair damages when the 6.9 hits that Dave has predicted.

Cali would be a 3rd country, aka Nortre Mexico inside 10-20 years.

This is cute, all this loyalty and pride in state over country, pretty sure you get your ass kicked when you think that way, just ask the South.

If we combined all the Northeast Megalopolis cities to form one state it would shit all over California.

No, I don't even want to think about what our lovely government would do if they didn't have that pesky constitution thing to worry about.

Cali its on its own would do very well. Yes, they would lose the federally funded economic boosters, but they would make out better since they send far more money to the Federal government than they receive back.
In fact, if they only received back what they paid the Feds they wouldn't have a deficit.

So, Cali would be immediately fiscally solvent. Without the welfare queen states dragging it down, Cali would prosper.

Isn't Cali in debt up to their eyeballs?

They are like the epitome of our bad economy. Lots of debt and inflated housing. We can probably set cali free, and stop buying their insufferable produce.

You do realize more people move into Cali then out correct? There's a reason why real estate is more expensive here, because more people want to live here.

People can hate on Cali as much as they want but we're the center for so many industries that the nation and world would go to hell if anything happened to us. I don't even need to name them cus everyone knows that we have so much going on here.

California is a shithole. Unbearable traffic, urban sprawl, limited natural resources (Like water) and liberal morons that think the know everything.

First Ahhhnold and now Jerry Brown. Really?

"We're so cool man, we have MMJ, great beaches, (with frigid water) and Hollywood!"

I wonder where the GDP would be without Hollywood and the production companies.

Buncha pompous pricks.

OP is either ignorant or a troll. The rest of the US would lose not all tax revenue but high tech innovation, agriculture, entertainment and consumer goods.

lol you jealous 😛

you cant forget silicon valley either...

and the top tier schools including Stanford, Berkeley, Caltech, UCLA, and USC.

Whine as much as you want about liberal profs at Berkeley, but it's also one of the top engineering schools in the world -- on the same level as MIT.

Chew on that.

More Bull Shit.

Look at the list of fine " Shitty Southern " welfare states below:
Of the TOP 15 I see only one southern state that is Tennessee. California is at the TOP of the list at # 1.

Source: http://www.cnbc.com/id/31910310/The_Biggest_US_Welfare_States?slide=1
To get an idea of which states pay out the most welfare checks, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) surveyed state governments. Using the most current information, NCSL then compared the total number of recipients of TANF to the overall state populations (through June 2009).

15. Oregon
14. Pennsylvania
13. Michigan
12. Rhode Island
Tie-10. Indiana
Tie-10. New Mexico
9. Washington
8. Minnesota
7. New York
6. District of Columbia
5. Vermont
4. Massachusetts
3. Tennessee
2. Maine
1. California

ironically it's the exact same thing with the neighboring southern Mexican state Baja California as far as Mexico goes
