The GOP will retain control of both the House and Senate untoil the Democrats take their seats in Congress
on Inaguration Day - the 3rd of January, 2007.
In the meantime there is some unfinished business, some of which will be very contentionous.
First - Replacement of Rumsfeld with Gates - Bush is insistant on getting him through the confirmation cycle
as a matter of Nationasl Security while he still has the majority control and cannot be stopped without a filibuster movement.
Second - long term confirmation of John Bolton to the UN
In the choice of Gates it would be Daddy's influence bailing out Junior from the mess that he allowed by keeping
Rumsfeld in place and allowing a bad situatiuon to deteriorate through ignorance and arrogance, contrary to what's best for our country.
With Bolton - it's trying to keep a argumentive buffon in place to continue bullying the world to give in to Bush's
monolithic, self serving 'My Way or the Highway' mentality of we will tell everyone what to do, just jump at what we demand.
The problem is that should the Democrats put up a struggle for the sake of the American People and their
consensus on the Mid-Term Elections, and the fact thet they threw out the cookiie cutter rubber stamp
Republicans that were going along with the Bush doctrine in lock step, he can then accuse them of
being non-partisan players in the moving forward with the business of the American People -
a last ditch effort to shift the blame away from hisd own failed policies and the lack of congressional oversight.
A wise man would leave well enough alone, or at least name people who the Democrats would approve of in comittee.
Clinton made it a point to check with the opposition party and find out where they stood on a prospective candidate
before nomination, so as to maximize the chances of approval of those candidates prior to them coming to the floor for a vote.
Why bring up a dead horse just so you can beat on the corpse, when there's plenty of fresh meat fo all to enjoy.
Temporary appointments are just that - let Bolton expire, and walk away, find a person who won't bluster and
alienate others and get the best man for a job, not some loyal political hack - which is just about Bush's only claim to fame.
