In lieu of ad revenue (ads are causing mobile browser problems), what other ways can the mods raise funds to pay the bills?

I'd suggest something but it would result in corruption on a massive scale. And the place would become a ghost town.

What - you don't like the unfixed 'benefit' of ads making the site completely unusable on mobile chrome helping to drive users away from here? Huh.

I'm about ready to abandon this site in favor of Reddit or somewhere else due to the ads that make it nearly impossible to view the forums on mobile. Had to load up the desktop version to post this.

There's ads?

Using 3rd party ad services on a tech site is kinda ironic actually. Do some people actually NOT use an ad blocker? They'd be better off selling ad space directly and self hosting the ads. As long as they are not super obnoxious no one will block them, and by default don't think an ad blocker would even know to block them as they would just be part of the site.

Yea, I can't believe a techie would complain about ads. Not like you gotta be a 1337 haxxor to fix it or anything. I'm also cool with self hosted ads. Have a dedicated spot where they promptly show up, and I'll ignore them, but they likely won't be blocked.

That. Use safe, vetted ads that don't flash and blink and talk, put them in a spot that doesn't eat up too much prime space and force us to work around them and I'll happily leave them unblocked to support a site I use. But the more intrusive and obnoxious they are the quicker they'll get blocked. Since AT doesn't have the sense or the courtesy to use ads reasonably and judiciously then into the garbage they all go. I can't believe anyone would use this place without an ad blocker.

I'd gladly take 10% cut to the revenue generated by all the lucky subscribers to my posts.

Hell no. The idiots viewing ads on Anandtech help to keep the site revenue sustainable for the rest of us moochers.

I will agree. I rarely use mobile for these forums, but I tried the other day and wow. Bad.

We used to have a subscription service. I'd gladly pay to help out the site, but last time I asked it wasn't something they were considering.
