Should Army Pfc. Bradley Manning be executed if found guilty of treason?

Simple question.
Is execution the appropriate punishment for treason in a time a war.

Would outing an agent during wartime be enough to bring those responsible to justice?

It doesn't seem like he intended to betray the US. I would imagine his goal was to strengthen the American democracy. Now whether he breached his duty as a soldier is another question.

OP, was Claus von Stauffenberg a traitor? Did he deserve to be executed?

Are you referring to Plame?
The same Plame that wasn't a covert agent according to the Intelligence Identities Protection Act? The same Plame that drove a Sabb to Langley for 10 years and then people like you claim her employment with the CIA was a highly guarded secret?

That agent?

No, the state should not be granted the power to carry out executions.

Sucks when your right wing heros keep committing treason don't it? Reagan selling arms to Iran. Bushies outing American agents. When you can't trust right wing psychopaths to uphold the national trust, who can you trust?

No. His acts were not intended to help the enemy, whether or not they do so as a side effect.

Under what premise have we gone to war in Iraq and Afghanistan?

I will answer the question this way... IF we are fighting to defend our nation or its citizens from a hostile enemy then if found to be guilty in a fair tribunal I'd vote for his termination.... However, if we are not there for the purpose stated then I think any information given to the people so they can make informed decisions in the face of lies and distortions is appropriate and he is a 'whistle blower'..... I would add that if the former is true but we are told nothing but lies to enable continued support for an insane quest with legitimate purpose then he should still be punished but much less so.
We are a government of the people and by the people and for the people... all the people... We need to keep an eye on who ever might seek to engage us in furthering an agenda not in keeping with our stated purpose for the people.

Obama said it was nothing we didn't already know, also, it's why it's died off front pages of newspapers after 3 days. Death does not fit crime here IMO. Selling state secretes like nuke detonators, giving troop movements to AQ or something like that sure.

If he has committed treason, and can be found guilty of it, then yes, execute him.

And, Perk, at this point you might as well have automatic trials for every politician when they leave office - but if you can find Bush and Cheney guilty of treason, go ahead and string them up.

Execution is a barbaric practice condoned by hateful savages, so no he shouldn't be executed.
