AOL has its uses, like being a proxy so i can go to "restricted" sites at work

haha.. true. But seriously, it is not needed. IQ has nothing to do if they should be allowed on the internet or not. There are millions of people smarter than you or I that don't know how to use the internet.
Usually the ones who think they're "leet" (or worse, 1337) are the AOLers, and the only information that interests them is who 'pwnz' whom more, 'wut u' think about who pwnz whom more, and 'y ur 2 b 4 wut plz r ololololo' (don't ask, I don't know). I'd make an exception for older and/or less technical folk (but no one under ~30), but voted 'ban' without giving it a second thought heh... Most of them think the 'intarweb' is '4 da nurdz neway', so why not want them off?
Lol, and as for the second poll, an IQ of 50 indicates moderate mental retardation (or maybe minor? not sure if the scale starts at 60 or 80, but it's one of those iirc). The average IQ in the US is 100 (105 in Japan), and you've got to take that into account. I voted 80.

It's not just that AOLers are stupid, it's that their whole IP system makes them a haven for spammers, script kiddies, pingflooders, channel flooders and the like.
Good example: I op in an IRC channel. I'd noticed whilst chatting (yes, I use IRC for chat) in another room that some guy kept popping in and cutting/pasting large blocks of conversations from other rooms until he (I'm assuming it was a he) was kicked. His Ident and Nickname kept changing every time, so banning by that was no good. Finally, someone banned him by part of his subdomain. (ABCDEFG.aol.com) Except not 10 seconds later the guy is back, and guess what, most of his subdomain was different. The only part that was the same was the first three letters, ACB. When ACB*.aol.com was banned it took out several people from multiple countries, including Australia, England and America.
AOL has made it so their godawful addressing system makes no distinctions based on locale, even on a country or continental basis. As such you can't filter out certain offenders without taking out "innocents" in the process. I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow did the same thing with their actual IPs. Couple that with the overwhelming number of Free Trial CDs they send out and the ease of getting online without actually submitting identifiable information, you'll get the worst thing to happen to the internet since the latest ICANN travesty.
I recommend most people who use AOL and come to the channel I op switch to Netzero or PeoplePC or something. It's cheap and more often than not it's in their area.

Have them take a look at access4less.net, their lowest dialup plan is like $6 or $8 a month. I have an aunt who uses them.
im an AOLer. thats right. im smart enough to use the internet but not smart enough to switch. acutally the real reason im still stuck on this darned thing is my sis likes her email address tooooo much. so yeah isp wont change meaning no dsl meaning connecting to the internet on a 56k modem at 24k. grrrrr. good thing college is the complete opposite..grrr..im done now!

I remember this thread starting about 12 years ago when aol gave their user access to the internet, ruining our little academic paradise.
