Should a factory overclocked GPU be overclocked further?

Hi.

I bought the ASUS GTX 670 which is factory overclocked from 915mhz base 980mhz boost to 980mhz base 1058mhz boost.

This is my first build so I'm just wondering if I should be overclocking it further or is this fine as it is?

Are you happy with it's performance? If not, then there are plenty of guides and tutorials around the web to help you overclock further.

Why not, they are voltage locked (NV Kepler) so it's pretty easy to just increase the power percent to the max and increase the core slowly. You could get around 1150-1250 on the core for a decent speed increase. Just find the max stable core in uigine, 3dmark, and then test your games. If the driver crashes drop the clocks a little or if the game crashes or if you see artifacts. Go up in say +20 MHz increments.

The naysayers probably haven't even tried it themselves but the 670 is certainly not powerful enough for max settings in every game so any gain is just a bonus. It's free performance to make your card equal or possibly faster than a stock 680 for less money.

Yea sure if you are talking about an old GPU. Our newfangled technology gets like 10-20% more with OC.

Yes, might aswell, you can kill it if you leave it unstable for too long, but once you crashed once in a game you can back down.

Use MSI Afterburner and overclock your card to it's limits then save both the stock settings and the overclocked settings (1 and 2).

Asus provides overclocking software and instructions with its cards, why not use it? Not overclocking only makes sense in a corporate environment.
