Should a computer with internet access be a requirement for students? I personally think that a computer should be an advantage and not a requirement for students. It think it's absurd to assume that everybody has a computer, no matter how rich they are. I really hate it when teachers give assignments or give out the homework on online sites instead of in school because not everybody has computer/internet access or possibly thier computer is not working.

at my college you need computer and internet access to do work and it's been that way for awhile now so i think everyone should either have access to a PC or have their own

Every school I've been at has offered computer labs for student use. STFU.

For universities and other institutions PROVIDING access for those that don't on their own - yes. For public K-12 schools... No.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a college that doesn't require a computer. Many of them will actually give a specialized loan for those who might not be able to afford one.

Yes. If you are too poor to own a computer or get your computer fixed, there are computer labs free for use at every university. I'm in one right now.

there is always a way to get online, schools provide access if a student cannot get it themselves

For college, yes, absolutely. It's the 21st century and a semester's worth of books costs more than a new Dell.

K-12 no, unless the school provides them in a lab or stipends for students without means.

For a university: Yes. You're dropping $25k for tuition. Consider the $300 part of books and supplies.
For K-12: As long as suitable access is supplied (ie: computer lab or library) by the school.

You can thank my University (NCSU) in part for colleges requiring the use of computers. We came up with webassign :)

Most colleges I know of certainly don't require one. Even where I go to there are probably like 100 labs on campus. Even technical majors need one less than lots of other majors. I have a fast computer, but nowhere near as fast or powerful as the workstations our department has.

When I was a kid in elementary school, it was assumed that every child had some sort of access to a full encyclopedia for reports and such. The internet is similar in that most public libraries provide access, even for elementary kids.

I guess it shouldn't be required but I can't see why you wouldn't have one.
It's not like it hard to find a cheap computer that works these days. Every campus I've ever gone to has computer labs that's are pretty easily accessible to anyone who needs them.

Of course I might be a little biased in this matter.

Even if the school has online access at a K-12 school, I still don't think it should be a requirement because 1. Theres the bus, bus would likely leave right after school is over, therefore not allowing the student to get homework done if it's assigned via the computer because they need to get home. 2. Not every kid knows how to use the computer nor necessarily WANTS to use it.

I just think that one should be able to be educated with out technology being a requirement. It's a little wierd, I'm very intune with technology, I have many high tech devices, I fix and build a computer, I can usually work on most electronic devices and figure them out but at the same time, I don't really want to be required to use this technology at the same time, it's a little wierd.
