no, we should move forward and continue living our lives the way we always have. I think making it a holiday would basically mean that the terrorists won as they've changed our lives forever.

i hate hate hate that argument - "the terrorists have won" - and i cringe every time i hear it.
what have they won? is this a game? do we know their exact objectives?

changed our lives? haven't they already?
have you been to an airport recently? have you crossed a bridge or tunnel in NYC after 9/11?
new terror threat level system? homeland security?
going by that, isn't it clear they've already "won".

holiday or not, they've already changed our lives forever.

that said, i don't think it should be a holiday, but not for the reason of denying the terrorists a "win".
:D

Well, technically September 11th is a "holiday." My calendar here lists it as "Patriot Day." But, I remember the day as it's the day I started working.... Just like Clerks, I'm takin' it back, bitches.

No, if we had a paid holiday every time something good or bad happened in this country we'd never go to work.

Not unless they're going to make Pearl Harbor a holiday, D-Day a holiday, D-Day at Iwo Jimi, Tarawa, Saipan, Guadalcanal, etc, holidays, too.

I say they make all 11th's of the month holidays. And every day in September. Also every day that had an equivalent day in 2001. I think that would be a fair tribute.

No. We should treat it as if it never happened. Terrorists are at their heart are disenfranchised powerless people. Terrorist acts are not meant to kill as much as to shock (but only killing is shocking so...), and gain notoriety. Their killings are supposed to be a message. Just like school bullies, terrorists are looking for attention. When you give it to them, it validates their strategy (killing to send a message/have a voice).

Making 9/11 a holiday will only make their actions MORE SUCCESSFUL.

We should follow the example of Israel, which is to not have memorials, not make monuments, and not listen to a thing terrorists say.

Also, marking the day a large group of people were killed as "holy", is a bit morbid imo.

The Monday after Super Bowl is a better candidate. 9/11 is better remembered without having department stores use it as an excuse for a sale.

A Holiday? I thought holidays are for celebration/rejoicing a day you look FORWARD to.. something that you want to observe to remind everyone of what a GREAT day it is.. How the fuck would anyone come up with an insane idea of calling 9/11 a HOLIDAY?

Maybe a day of remembrance for those lost, but a holiday???

No, to many holidays as it is. It'd make a whole boatload more sense to not have national holidays and just give employees an extra 5-6 personal days.
