Should 8 y/o boy be allowed to wear a dress, use a female name, and use female restrooms at school?

Not sure why bathrooms are segregated in the first place, aside from tradition. As far as name and dress goes, people should do what they want. I do draw the line at people who 'change identity' day to day. Everyone gets one free change. If you're a girl now, I'll call you a girl, but I'm not gonna follow some stupid name tag for your preference of the day. Uncommon I'm sure, but I've read of schemes like this at some colleges(courses?) that are of no importance.

I'm all in favor of equal rights and protection under the law for trans people, but an 8 year old trans? 8 year olds don't know anything about anything, let alone what gender they "should" be.

Teach the child that gender identity is a complicated issue, they can identify as whatever gender they please, even go so far as to undergo hormone therapy or gender reassignment surgery, but they should decide on these life altering actions WHEN THEY'RE AN ADULT. Until then, dress as a girl if you please, but no one has to call you she or go out of their way to accommodate what could be the temporary whims of a small child.

I draw the line at any 8-year old that thinks they ever have anything figured out in life. Be it their planned profession, planned college degree, or planned gender. You're 8 and you're fucking retarded, go play outside and quit thinking - it's starting to get cancerous for you.

In cases like this, you fucking know the parents are shoving it down the kid's throats and actively encouraging it. Hope it turns out real well in 20 years when their kid commits suicide from being so confused over themselves thanks to stupid mommy and daddy.

:shrugs: I never thought I was a girl, and I don't get it, so I'll defer to people that do (think)they get it. If the kid ends up fucked up, it's not my problem. There's millions of kids fucked up for various reasons that don't include sex. They can join the club.

Sure, as long as the child gets mandatory psychological help along with the parents. This is the manifestation of a mental disorder. At issue is whether this is based on a decision the child made or whether this was foisted on the child by the parents. It needs to be determined where this urge originates.

This could be more than just the parents planting this in the child's mind. It may be an attempt to cash in on some type of notoriety by the parents. Sooner or later the show 'I am Jazz' is going to be taken off the air when the star has a major meltdown. TLC will be looking for a replacement.

Too bad our political climate dictates that child protective services has to be persona non grata.

This school wouldn't even let teachers prevent others from harassing this child.

If this child believes that she is female, leave her the f alone. To me it is no different than preventing other kids from harassing her over her chosen religious beliefs.

Children don't choose their religious beliefs, they're taught their religious beliefs under threat of punishment.

No. (edit) At home, why not? If the parents are that stupid.go for it, ruin the kid's life...at school or in any other public setting...NO.
Sure....why not?
Hell no.

Boys have penises, girls have vaginas. Use the appropriate bathroom.

While others are already prodding their little CJW's to put the fear of God into the child...

That times 1000. About the only thing an 8 year old understands about gender identity is that girls get picked last for kickball. This is the parents decision.

Yes, because instead of addressing an issue lets just kick the can down the road until the stupid silly fucking kid is 25 popping depressant drugs and living a life of misery all in the name of social justice warrior-ism.

And let me guess - your undergrad dorm roommate was a complete douchebag retard, right?

Does he go around pondering everyday "How can I try to milk money by exploiting my child's insecurities?"

He was a goofball and a really smart dude. He was very disciplined in hitting the books. Last I heard he finished Med school and was doing a neurology residency. So you would think he knows a thing or two about brain development right?

He was never the type to turn a dime into a dollar kind of person. I definitely knew those kind of people.

But then again, even though my posts here are kind of immature, I have changed significantly since undergrad. I am sure he has also. So my view of him from the past is most likely not a good representation.

My feelings are transgenders are part of our world. No reason to try kick the can down the road, might as well provide a positive environment early on. Otherwise kids being kids will end up bullying. I definitely knew of a gay kid in elementary school. Everybody knew he was gay. He knew he was gay. So this doesn't seem farfetched at all to me.

"knew" a gay kid in elementary school? See this is shit that is just getting unacceptable. No one knew shit about their sexuality when they were in elementary school. Or middle school - hell, even high school - which is when you are finally actually START hitting puberty that STARTS the initial process of identifying those things. You're talking about the years in which a child doesn't even know what sexual organ he has - let alone which one is attractive to him. You're totally fucking insane if you're telling me that is something you can identify at a young age.

This is what is wrong with anyone that encourages this bullshit behavior - We just end up with a society of confused and misguided individuals popping pills 24/7 in the name of "Oh I did something right and supported my child based on his decision!"

No amount of outside pressure can convince a straight person that they are gay or the 'wrong' sex trapped in the 'wrong' body. The same goes for the reverse situation. .

Years ago they used to force left handed kids to use only their right hand. It was and is unnatural.

I think they should transfer him to one of the "thug" schools here in Philly and let him wear his dress and make up.
I'm sure the black kids would welcome him with open arms.

Seriously, is there something in the water that is making people "feel" like they are the opposite sex?
Is the actual definition of a man or woman changing? Is that biologically possible?

"Thug" is not a permissible word for describing African Americans of any sort here, sorry.

The elementary school I went to was for gifted kids in math/science. So maybe those kids were more developed mentally compared to your experience.
