All right hear it goes.
I bought an ASUS A7V8X Deluxe with a Barton 2500+ and corsair 512 XMS PC-3200C2PT and an 80 gig deathstar
I had an old ATX case and PS 250 Watt. Switched everything out and plugged it in and the green light from the MB was on but no post, fan or nothing. Pulled it out and stripped it to the bare necc. then tried. CPU fan goes and then the hard drive starts to whirl and then all is silent after 10 seconds. No Beep, No post, just a 10 second whirl. So I figured it was my lame 250 watt PSU so I got a 400 watt, Same damn thing, AAARRGGGHHH.
My heat sink and fan is more than good enough for some OCing.
If I only had a beep to work with, but to start for 10 seconds and to automaticly shut down baffles me.
Any input would be INCREDIBLY APPRECIATED.:disgust:

...tried it with JUST CPU (&HSF), RAM and video? Not even the HD?

I think you need a bigger PSU, try a 300+ watts, good chance thats what it is.

It could be the power switch, but I personally never use less than a 350w for a new machine. You are just asking for trouble with anything less.

No it's not a power supply problem.

Plug some speakers into the onboard sound ont he motherboard...Asus uses a Vocal Post Reporter, and it will say the actual problem...if the motherboard can determine it.

If you have a spare CPU, I'd toss that in as well.

If the motherboard shuts off after 10 seconds, you may have installed your heatsink backwards *sneakily removes shotgun shells from psgt777's reach*

Look at this photo and you see the step in one end of the heatsink...? That's got to match the raised, solid-plastic end of the CPU socket. Also, notice the plastic slip that protects the thermal pad... that's got to come off before installation.

And a quality 300W+ power supply is just what the doctor ordered. Quality first, then wattage. Enermax, Antec and Sparkle Power are three brands worth a look.

In my post I said that I was now using a 400 watt PSU, so I know thats not it.
I didn't realize about the speakers, I will try that next.
Oh and yes I tried to boot it with out anything and it still did the same thing.
As to the HS I am using a Swiftech MC462 and I checked, it's on right.

I see it's a 400W, but is it a good-quality 400W or a cheapie? Maybe you did get a high-quality one, but I didn't see you mention a brand anywhere, so we gotta assume the worst ;)

If you still don't get anywhere, hook the motherboard to the power supply, and take out ALL components. No CPU, no memory, no video card, no keyboard, no nothing. Just a bare board laying on cardboard, plugged into the PSU. Trip the power supply into starting up, by making momentary contact between the mobo's Power Button pins with a metal object. The power supply's fans should start spinning and stay spinning. If they don't, you've narrowed it down to three things: the power supply, the mobo, or the cardboard. The cardboard seldom malfunctions ;) so I'd be pointing the finger at the mobo at that point. Try it with both PSUs to eliminate the PSU as a factor.

Also, if you're using a shim between the heatsink and CPU, take it out.

I usually also connect a speaker to the speaker pins, so I can hear any beep codes.

Well arn't I the fool,
I finally rechecked the HS and found that it was set about 1/16 of an inch over the CPU. The washers that I used for the MB screws were for larger holes to secure the heat sink so they didn't slide in as they should have, as they did on my A7V. Now that I have it running it wont recognize my CDROM so I cant load any drivers AAARRRGGGHHHH. Well at least I didn't fry my CPU. Thanks for all the help
