Short workout with two dumbells?

Orsorum

Lifer
Normally I do a complete round on nautilus equipment, plus some running... couldn't make it to the gym today, but I have two 35lb dumbells in my room. Wondering if anyone knows of a short, relatively complete workout I can do with just those?

Pfft... wimp. 😛

😀

Naw, I'd have them up to 45 or 50 (two sets of 12 reps of bicep curls every day) by now if I had the extra weights.

You can do the following:

chest flys (lie on your back, arms out; lift the weights up so they meet in the middle of your body [n.b.: this will probably be impossible with heavy weights)

standing rows: stand up, weight in either hand--lift them up to your chin, and keep your elbows out.

curls--i hope you know how to do these

shoulder presses

lift the weight over your head, and keeping your elbows close to your ears, lift the weight from behind your head to above it. Hope this makes sense.

lunges--a weight in each hand, step forward and go down 'til both knees are at right angles.

Hope this helps, but for future reference a bench and more weights might not hurt 🙂

curls
shoulder presses, vary the position of the arms
bent over rows, one at a time leaning on the bed
situps with one on the chest
shoulder raises (arms wide and straight, although those are pretty heavy for that)
flys lying on your bed, head over the edge, bring them down past your head and back up (probably using only one dumbell with both arms)
back lifts, bending over with the weight and then standing straight up.
Shoulder shrugs
Pushups onto the dumbells, using them as handles on each side. This allows you to go down a little furthur than pushups on the floor.

Those are ones off the top of my head. 🙂

You could get a cheap bench for 30 bucks maybe. I have one that inclines. It also has "arms" for you to put your feet under to do sit ups. It's kind of wobbly, but I can still get a decent workout in my room if I can't hit the gym.
