Hello good people. I'm doing a short survey as part of an essay that I have due at the end of the week for my online internet course. Maybe you passerbyers wouldn't mind answering for me a few questions? ;)

---

What aspect of the Internet do you use the most and why?

How often do you go online, and how much time do you spend online?

What are some of your favorite web sites?

How does the Internet compete with other aspects of your lives?

What do you consider to be the advantages and drawbacks of Internet use?

Now just list your age, gender, education, occupation and ethnicity.

---

Don't need your names or anything...I appreciate it!

What aspect of the Internet do you use the most and why?

Online fourms. I can waste time chatting at work but they are also valuable for research. I also do computer shopping online instead of going to stores.

How often do you go online, and how much time do you spend online?

I am online daily. Pretty much online for the full work day (7 hours for me). I will go online after work often for hours at a time. That includes online gaming.

What are some of your favorite web sites?

www.anantech.com, www.myspace.com, www.hardforum.com, www.superhonda.com

How does the Internet compete with other aspects of your lives?

I spend more time browsing on the internet at work than doing actual work (I think). I guess I could go out more during the week days but I stay home and relax while I'm online. However if I get a call to go out, I won't let anything online hold me back from going out.

What do you consider to be the advantages and drawbacks of Internet use?

Advantages: easy research for homework/papers, easy to shop for pretty much anything, online banking is awesome, prodcut research and reviews.

Disadvantages: makes it so you don't have to go out and talk to real people to learn things you want to know

Now just list your age, gender, education, occupation and ethnicity.
I am a 21 year old male that will be a Senior in college next semester. I'm half Caucasian and half Mexican

1. Browsing the web, emails, paying bills, news & weather. Also online gaming on occasion. Why, because it is convenient and can be entertaining. (especially here at ATOT) :)

2. Depends, some days I barely have a few minutes, other days I might spend a couple hours doing various things.

3. ATOT of course. I went through a phase where I enjoyed Cliff Yablonski (sp?). Haven't been there in a long time. I can't think of any others at the moment.

4. Compete as in does it affect other things I do. I would have to say no, but it does make things easier. Paying bills, checking movie times, the weather, that sort of thing.

5. Advantages- Online bill paying is a definate plus, gotta love paying all your bills in a matter of minutes. Vast array of information all in one place.
Disadvantages- can't really think of any other than maybe the fact that so much stuff being electronic, kinda lose the human touch. ( who cares, most people suck..lol j/k ;) )

6. 23, Female, student, white

Hope this helps.

What aspect of the Internet do you use the most and why?
instant messaging, to keep in touch with friends both near and far. also, information pages (i do a lot of searching for answers -- thank you, google!), email, and ATOT.

How often do you go online, and how much time do you spend online?
i used to go upwards of 14 hours when i cared a lot. now, maybe 4-5 hours.

What are some of your favorite web sites?
anandtech, email (i'm partial to hotmail, gmail, and yahoo mail), ebay

How does the Internet compete with other aspects of your lives?
i'd say that it does occasionally -- i'll become immersed in some sort of discussion like on atot and then neglect something else that's going on in the real world. but mostly, i'm well balanced, as i'm married now. i turned to the internet a lot when i was living by myself and didn't have a social life (mostly due to depression).

What do you consider to be the advantages and drawbacks of Internet use?
advantages: access to information at your fingertips. i used to work as a private investigator and the job relied heavily on internet research. i'm not sure how private investigators in my field (trademark research) could have possibly done any work without the internet. it's just so much harder and more time consuming.
drawbacks: you really can get involved a lot. i see people taking their lives due to some internet silliness, since people you talk with online sometimes forget that they're dealing with a human's feelings. a lot of people here come to boost their own self esteem at the expense of other, more vulnerable, individuals. it can cause a world of hurt for some. the drawbacks also include having so much information at your fingertips that you don't know when to stop.

Now just list your age, gender, education, occupation and ethnicity.

What aspect of the Internet do you use the most and why?

- research, getting documentation, drivers, etc. There's always something that needs to be fixed, improved, or learned about.

How often do you go online, and how much time do you spend online?

- I'm always online, though sometimes I'm not within easy reach of a computer. And I sleep sometimes.

What are some of your favorite web sites?

- google, palaeos.com, pubmed, various web fora

How does the Internet compete with other aspects of your lives?

- It doesn't compete. For a lot of aspects of life, it's a part. When I have something to do that doesn't involve a computer, I do that. The internet doesn't "compete" any more than my desk chair competes with other aspects of life.

What do you consider to be the advantages and drawbacks of Internet use?

- No drawbacks, except, I suppose, the cost. The advantages are telling enough that I hardly ever go back to my paper library any more except for a couple of books, like the Merck Index, which are usually better and faster than searching online. For technology and science issues, by the time something makes it to print, it's already obsolete.

Now just list your age, gender, education, occupation and ethnicity.

What aspect of the Internet do you use the most and why?
Forums first, email close second. I communicate with others to learn about and help with computer and photography related stuff.

How often do you go online, and how much time do you spend online?
Frequently, whenever I'm not in school or working on something else.
4-5 hours per day, usually.

What are some of your favorite web sites?
AnandTech, DPhoto, Luminous Landscape, DPReview, Newegg, KEH, B&H.

How does the Internet compete with other aspects of your lives?
Many times, it wins.

What do you consider to be the advantages and drawbacks of Internet use?
Advantages: learn about new developments, find solutions to problems, avoid disreputable companies, interact with a broader range of people than I know in real life.
Disadvantages: too easy to not spend time exercising and doing other stuff in life that I want to do (but evidently not enough to keep me off the computer)

Now just list your age, gender, education, occupation and ethnicity.
