It's sold out until April. Shorting it only makes sense if you know when the early adopter market will get saturated and the systems start sitting on store shelves.

the Switch looks like it will be a huge flop. Barely more powerful than the 4 year old Wii U, it has a lot of moving parts which will mean higher warranty costs, and it has some really bad design decisions like the useless dock which doesn't contain any processing power and which also scratches the screen.

And if you want to apply a skin to it you will destroy the paint job.

And the controllers lose wireless connection.

And cell phone games are good enough for most people.

Stock is at 26 bucks about right now. I'm thinking with the failure of the Switch it should go below $10 a share.

Only problem might be the Switch fails fast and Nintendo quickly transitions to a software shop. But given their stubbornness, and Japanese culture, it looks like they will probably suffer a slow death via their hardware division and the Switch.

You should have shorted them on the day that pokemon game came out last year. This will likely be a flop, but not nearly to the tune that stupid investors rushed up Nintendo stock based on a product that was not Nintendo's. Now THAT is hilarious.

My kids have been on us about the Wii U and now this thing, all just to play friggin Splatoon. That's how kids are... that's how sales will work. I'm obviously not going to buy something they DON'T want.

flop? I think the switch is going to be a massive success. Maybe not on the scale of the 3DS or the Wii but still will sell very strong. Especially with the reviews Zelda is getting, and the press on the new Mario has been very positive as well.

Same business model as the Wii U. Sell lots of expensive hardware and it will make up for lack of game sales.

Yeah, I don't think that it's going to be a flop. If anything, it's going to start a new market segment of "hybrid" home/mobile console systems. Designs like these will only get more popular as mobile CPU and GPU power increases.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony does something similar with the next version of the Vita.

don't most manufacturers actually lose money on the console and make it up in game sales? why not just make android games

That's how it used to be. (Back in the PS3/ 360 days) Having a more powerful system didn't help when the competition did it too however, it was not an advantage. (only a new baseline) So Sony and Microsoft mutually agreed to scale back this gen so they would make a profit or nearly break even right out of the gate. Nintendo has basically always made it so they make a profit on the hardware right out of the gate, though word is they took a tiny loss on the initial shipments of the Wii U that was modest enough to get them in the black with a single game purchase.

Read a couple reviews today. They were not impressed at all. Except for Zelda. But not worth the money to play one game. We'll see how it plays out

Sony can't even get out of bed without screwing up.

And, yet, they still somehow made a better gaming console than Microsoft did this generation. It just goes to show how much Microsoft screwed up with their marketing this go around.

Sony's smart move this gen was waiting for Microsoft to go first with the used game restrictions so Sony could gauge consumer reaction and react accordingly. When gamer backlash at Microsoft became a firestorm, Sony backed off and took a "We would NEVER do such a thing!!" spin even though they had clearly filed a patent and had a plan waiting in the wings for doing something similar.

They should have called it the Xbox Carnival. Basically every "feature" it has is really some gimmick to rape parents wallets.

My ten year old daughter and her friends still play the crap out of our Wii. In fact I just picked up a few more used games on the cheap and replaced the rechargeable battery packs in the controllers.

I looked at the Switch but can't find a super compelling reason to shell out that kind of cash.
