short haircuts other than buzzed?

for the past few years I have just been giving myself a buzz cut from a #1 to #2 depending on my mood, but usually a #1.5. I want to try something new but I want to keep my hair short

is there anything else I can do? what do you guys think about fades? i like my hair real short (i have thick dark hair and I like it when its short cause its lighter... plus easy to maintain and just looks better)

Not the picture... looks likes he's trying to be Bono, but short a couple million dollars.

starting at a 1 fading to a 2 with about 1.5"s of hair on the top.

Well blended on the sides.

slick it back, spike it up, faux-hawk it.

The faux-hawk need to die. I'm in a similar boat, growing my hair out after shaving my head for the past few years. I need a short hair style, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be a douche and have a faux-hawk.

You're going to be in the military, yet you care enough about your hair to ask an online forum full of guys what you should do to it?

Here are your choices: Flat-top or Buzzed.

Add High 'n' Tight to that list.

I like buzzing my head, need to do it more often. So much easier to maintain and care for, even if you have to wear a hat outside most of the time. Avoid sunburn.

It completely depends on your head shape and face shape. Some people can pull it off and it's the best looking style for them.

high n tight here.

Play around with lengths, that's the easiest way to change things up.

Typically I get a 000 on sides, about a 4 on top. And I like to keep a little bits of bangs, versus the straight buzzed look on top with no bangs.

Regardless, it only looks good for like a week and a half. My hair grows way to damn fast - stays in regulation for about 4 weeks after the cut stated above, but that's pushing it - might actually be just out of regulation a little over 3 weeks. I try to push it just to save money (and I refuse to give myself a high n tight, shit that would look something terrible), but if I could afford it I'd probably get it cut every 2.5 weeks - I like the sides just starting to grow back to where they actually start hanging with gravity (as opposed to fresh stubble) with a full head of hair on top to comb, though I never do.

edit:
You can basically achieve that picture in the OP with a high and tight - just keep the fade on the side a little lower than a true jarhead-style high and tight. With a Triple Ought (#000), my sides get to about that length (in the picture) in about a week, week and a half. I don't use gel, but if I did I could have that look about a week after my haircut.

Should have been called the "Aircraft Carrier" (flatop) Or should say "a man`s hair cut" Plus super easy to fix after a rough night... 😉
