I hate people who take shopping carts and then just leave them on the sidewalk after they are done with them. I just saw like 7 shopping carts from pathmark on the sidewalk close to a senior housing community just sitting there and pathmark is like 4 blocks away.
Well, I don't think people would do that if they bought the shopping cart.

EDIT: for clarity.

So why is it acceptable to push a shopping cart in a grocery store but its not okay when you're on the street?
Because its a shopping cart, not a street cart
Its only called a shopping cart because that's its main purpose. Its really a wheelbarrow if you think about it.

it would need larger/wider tires to roll effectively on turf

No one pays for those carts, they are stolen all the time. I think California is working on some heavier law against this.

Edit: I don't care if they are taken or not, just as long that they dont end up in front of my house.

But what I'm saying is that if people had bought it instead of stealing it, they wouldn't leave it on the side of the road/street/sidewalk after they are done with them.

Of course when you actually pay for something, then you care about it. That's the same thing the supermarket store is saying, but people still steal them.

honestly, where do you buy a shopping cart? unless the store is going down under maybe i could see that.

But wouldn't you say that if the "stigma" of having a shopping cart on the street was removed, people wouldn't just toss them? Would you say that is a factor for people abandoning shopping carts as well?

If they don't own the cart, what are they suppose to do with it, walk back with it empty an return it to the store or just get a new one the next time they go back.

I don't understand what you mean by having a stigma, in fact i don't understand the whole point of this topic.

It be easier for a person to just buy a small personal cart that they sell to carry items, you see this specially in the city, than to just steal a shopping cart from a store.

Even if you bought a shopping cart everyone will still assume you either stole it or are a homeless person.

That's the stigma!

it's cause no one would buy a shopping cart!!
they're two expensive. lots of people buy grocery carts. they're affordable, collapsable, and you can take them on a bus.
it has that stigma, because only people who steal them have them.

that being said, i live 1.5 blocks from the grocery store and will use their cart if i get alot of groceries. but i asked them first, and i always return it.

Thank you

I think shopping carts cost like 150$ each that't probably a bulk price.
Grocery cart is what i was thinking about its much better and at least makes you look honest.

Only 7? Heh -- there is an apartment complex (elderly people, for the most part) right behind the store I work at..sometimes, there are 20+ over there..

I would buy a shopping cart. Hell, I live about 10-15 minutes walking distance from the neighborhood Albertsons (literally, its across the street from me). The only reason I drive is because I can't buy as much grocery if I walk.

Yes, you would buy a "grocery cart". read the whole post. not a full size 40lb. steel shopping cart!
read the whole post. it would be stupid to spend that much when you can get something with bigger wheels (less jostling of breakables) that was collapsable, for about 1/10th the cost.

They do make plastic ones ya know.

Because using a shopping cart to gather groceries to the put in your car and take home (without the cart) is fine. To use the cart as your home is not.

Get A Job!

do you mean a Shopping Cart?
or a grocery cart?

i am not aware of a stigma attached to grocery carts. having a shopping cart means you stole it, because you can't buy one anywhere, and if you did it would be a waste of money. it would be much cheaper to get a wagon with removable sides.

To stay on the "SHOPPING CART" theme, answer me this.

On most tv shows and movies, when they show someone pushing a shopping cart inside a store, it has swiveling "REAR" wheels????
I've lived in over 9 states and been to many Grocery stores but have NEVER seen a shopping cart with rear wheels that swivel, only the front wheels. Can some here confirm a that a they've actually used a reg shopping cart that had rear wheels that swivel?

Something similar goes for shaving. Most tv shows/movies show men shaving "DOWN" when there's no way in hell you can get a close shave that way in the real world. (even with a damn good razor) After shaving down it would be the equivilent of not shaving the next morning.............. and my hairs grow SLOW.
My wife would never kiss me if I had constant stubble from shaving down. She likes me baby soft 😉 **LMAO**
I know some of you may say that shaving up ruins your skin or whatever but I've been shaving up for 15 years (16-31) and my skin be poyfect.

I can confirm that there are shopping carts where all 4 wheels swivel.

I want to know what state. Do you remember the store? And this was a normal shopping cart, right?

Thanks 🙂
It's just wierd to think that all four swivel. What would be the purpose?
