LOL...earlier this week I had the genious idea that I didn't want to get screwed longer by my insurance company (auto and home). I was paying 1100CAD a year for both and I thought that was ok since compairing to all those larger/well known companies, the one I was with was the cheaper for the same options.

Then, monday morning, I decided to teste the market. Took me around 1 hour for a few calls to other companies.

I'm now paying 700CAD a year for both auto and home insurances...better protections and lower deductibles plus the company gave me a 100$ check because i'm a new customer. Thanks!

And I thought I was paying a faire price...

When it comes to insurance loyalty is an attribute companies use to identify customers ripe for additional screwing.

I use this site as a starting point for my auto insurance search. Maybe other states/countries have a similar service?

If you're a good paying customer then the companies want you, as you don't file claims and just sit there and pay your premium. That tenure won't get you discounts most likely. Now if you get yourself in a situation where you're going to get nonrenewed due to claims and would have to get a high risk policy... then that tenure is gold

I use a middle-man agency that does the shopping for me. Each year they give me a packet with all of the current prices for the companies they deal with so I can choose. Probably not the best prices out there, but they get bulk discounts from the companies so it does save me quite a bit and saves time.

Didn't look very accurate for me. We have 2 cars with full coverage and pay about 1/2 to 2/3 of the rates listed there.

We shop for auto insurance every couple of years. Get quotes from a variety of insurance agents/companies to be sure we're paying the least for the best coverage.
I'm not the least bit loyal to any insurance company...but if one treats me fairly and doesn't rape me on rates, I'll stick with them over paying a bit less with a company who might have slightly lower customer ratings.

I think in my 6 or so years of car insurance, I've used the same company for 2 years in a row, and been with 5 different companies.
I never stick to one company, I always shop around for the best deal.

shrug, $200 a month for home, $500 deduct on 2 newer cars full coverage (2006 xterra, 2008 135i), we're both young ... me 25, her 23.

everytime I shop around, they want like $50-$100 more per month...our insurance lady is cool, she just marked us as married, and living at the GF's parents (out in the boonies, as opposed to the city).

Seems like everything works that way. New phone customer? Here take a free phone! Customer for years? No phone for you!

That's exactly why people are starting to switch contracts so often, which will continue to raise the price for the suckers that sit still for too long.

Luckily I live where there is a decent amount of tv/inet/phone/insurance competition, so switching every 1-2 years to take advantage of new customer perks isn't an issue.

So...you're benefiting from insurance fraud?

Nice to know. :colbert:

i looked around once. found out i was paying less then most.

$70 ish a month for the home
$40 for full coverage for the car $250 deduct

Side note, but man do I hate all the commercials with their "customers who switched from x to y saved an avg. of $z"

Ugh

These rates are not really to compare how much you would pay, but to get a gist on how company A compares to B, relatively speaking. I pay much less too, mainly from multiple discounts from the "standard" rate. Insurance companies use a lot of factors to determine your rate.

Yeah like, for home insurance, the hood you're living in, distance from a fireplug, distance from a fire station, story you're living in, year of construction of the building...

So much questions...but could save you some money.

So your insurance agent is committing insurance fraud?!?! God help you if you ever get sued and you insurance company denies the claim due to the fraud and you get a nice massive judgement against you.

Every couple years I get another insurance quote and it's ridiculously higher than what I pay. So, I stay with Progressive.

I love the ads that say they can save $X on my car insurance, where $X is more than I'm currently paying.

Still no free insurance for me though. 🙁
