The round should not have been chambered anyhow, CCW or not.

Some more details are coming out. A few things wrong, a few things right.

Right:
Kid was scared because of previous altercation, kid had weapon, wanted something to defend himself with.

WRONG:
No show and tell, this is a weapon and to be treated as such, you don't show it off, it's your last recourse
Firearm not in holster (even in his bag) to prevent "accidental discharge", there is no such thing, only "negligent discharge"
Where the hell is the family/father to
1) Deal with the threat via appropriate means
1a) Which would go nowhere
2) Teach him proper firearm handling
3) Kid had apparently brought firearm to school before and showed. If you're scared, don't let them know you have a weapon and just shoot them if threatened.

Anyone who carries without a round chambered might as well turn in their permits because all they have is a $400 paperweight. When properly carried it's not an issue. When improperly carried it's going to go badly anyway.

spidey, are you off your meds again?

Why do you mock? A gun doesn't just "go off". It's not some ticking timebomb that if you look at it wrong or toss it it will fire. Maybe it's just me because I was raised to understand firearms and handle them at an early age. The reports I read was he was "showing off" and wanted to "put the safety on". At age 15 I knew exactly how to handle firearms and the respect they need, just like a chainsaw.

That screams not knowing how to handle a firearm. Who's fault is that? The father/parents. If he felt he needed a weapon, he should know how to use it/operate it. Fault the father for not teaching how to handle firearms, fault the kid for not knowing, fault all you want.

Lemme guess, you think tossing a firearm to the ground makes it fire? Answer that, in this thread. I'll give you a clue, pulling the trigger makes it go bang.

Yep, they are being very disengenious and misrepresenting. Go figure.

I find it hilarious when the media talks about a handgun or even rifle ALWAYS has to point out "he used a semi-automatic handgun, he was able to purchase a semi-automatic handgun". Of course they always leave out the fact that most all guns are semi-automatic in an effort to push the agenda.

Any student who would take a loaded handgun in his backback to high school should be kicked out of school permanetly. Send him to boot camp.

Yeah for the most part the only guys using revolvers are old cowboys or shooting enthusiasts and only then when they are at the range. I dont know anybody who actually carries a revolver except maybe a palm sized 38 in an ankle holster, for backup.

Where was Palin when this happened?
Somehow I know she had a hand to play in this.

Unless you have one of these ...

Of course there's a lot of debate between carrying black, or red depending on the gun, and carrying without one on the chamber. It's called Israeli carry for short, or IMD Israeli Mossad Draw, and if you properly train to carry Israeli, you will not be hindered in the event that you need to draw your firearm. The problem that makes it an actual debate are those that carry this way and do not practice running their gun upon drawing.
