Shooting at University of Texas this morning

Campus is still closed, I was walking out the door this morning when I got the notice of the shooting. My first class was directly across the street from the shooting too.... crazy!
 
I found out when the bus driver at the UT bus stop said that campus was currently on lockdown. I came back home and I've been watching the news.

Campus is closed and classes are canceled:
In the interest of keeping you up to date on the current emergency, I want you to know that the campus remains locked down. All students, faculty, staff, and visitors should stay indoors and continue to follow instructions (from loudspeakers, email, text messages, and uniformed police officers). You will be notified when the situation becomes stable.

The armed suspect is dead. No other injuries have been reported.

All organized classes for today, September 28, are cancelled.

Please continue to monitor email and the UT home page for updates.

From the news report it sounds more like a public suicide at this point.

Guy with the gun is dead, no other injuries, no confirmation about other suspects. Seems like a guy who just wanted to off himself as publicly as possible and to inconvenience as many people as possible.

Did you get that from an email? I haven't gotten any official notices from UT, no txt msgs and no e-mails. I'm sure their systems are under some load right now.... heh

Lot's of people seem to do that around here, several times this year they've had to shutdown major highways because of jackasses on bridges or with guns on the side of the road.

The University of Texas is officially CLOSED. Per President Powers at 9:52 a.m., all organized classes today are CANCELLED.

If you are on campus, remain locked indoors and away from doors and windows until you receive the official all-clear! If you are off campus, stay away!

Yeah. Had I left my apartment 10 minutes earlier, I'd be in lockdown on campus right now.

I finally got another emergency text.

The system is not being very up to date. Can't say I'm impressed with the emergency system at this point.
 
It's not even top story on the news channels now either, now Mexico has a giant landslide that knocked this story down.
 
I work across the street from that side of campus, but we're not on lock down...Freaky man. Maybe I don't want to work downtown anymore. 😛
 
I'm also watching the news in my apartment right now. Glad I didn't get locked down on campus. Apparently the suspect was armed with an AK47.
 
Thank god it's a gun free zone. For a second there I thought someone could bring a gun to school and start killing people.

Lol, it's better than ours was when the shooting happened here. It was nearly an hour after it was over when the first alerts went out over our alert system.
