CNN just said that there would be 900,000 people taveling through the airport today with 85% of all flights arriving/departing the airport will be full.

Don't you mean there would have been?

El Al is the only airline whose own security can carry guns. This is a well known fact.

Could this be a diversion for something else?

I also thought of that, with a strong LAPD presence at LAX, there is weaker LAPD presence everywhere else.

There hasn't been a plan that has left LAX in some time now. There were a couple that left soon after the shooting. I guess those were the ones that were cleared for takeoff already. I live near LAX, so I hear the planes leave.

The diversion could be a good point, kind of scary. Dodger game starts in 90 minutes, if it was a strike quick type of thing :Q

MSNBC reports that it was a Ex-El Al Security Person that opened fire on his former boss and coworkers.

I'm not sure where they got this info from.

A perfect example of why the terrorists are too stupid to ever win. When you're looking to shoot people in an airport, you go ANYWHERE except El Al. Most of their security people are highly trained former military, not rent-a-cops.

According to CNN and other news channels, the US Government says this is an isolated criminal incident, not a terrorist attack.

How do you know it was a terrorist?

The reporter on Cnn was just talking to an Israeli official who is in Israel right now. He was talking about the terrorist at the airport, and she says, "What makes you say that it was a terrorist??". The guy had to have her repeat the question 3 times before he answered the obvious that a gunman targeting Israeli's is more than 99% a terrorist. And not a jilted lover looking for revenge.

You could tell by his voice that he couldn't believe she was actually suggesting that he wasn't a terrorist. Quite funny.

Perhaps this was a 'suicide' attack and was an attempt to distract the LA police from another, imminent incident?

People just don't walk in to shoot someone without planning, esp something like this.

If the terrorists were really smart they'd just drive through the southwest and throw lit cigarettes out the windows of their cars. :disgust:

This sounds like the beginning to Die Hard 2, except not in Dulles. But I don't think it's a terrorist event yet, it's just speculation.

*waits for press conference before i start spouting off bullcrap like people like doing in these kinds of threads*

Any listen to the interview on Fox? Was talking with one of the El Al security guys. Says that in the US that they can't do anything unless someone does something suspicious. Said something to the effect of if it wasn't the US he would have been dead before he got inside.

Doesn't El Al have one of the best track records for security over in Israel?

Edit: Said it was some Arab dude (one of the guys who saw it happen). 3 dead, 4 wounded, 2 arrested.

El Al is Israeli right?

i'm surprised you don't know about el al🙂 after all the hubub about our sh*t poor airport security there were a ton of news pieces on el al. their security is very tight, way tighter then what we have currently. 9/11 would have never happened if we had el al security all along😛

El Al has kickass security, but consider their size. They have roughly around 40 flights daily. Contrast that to American's 2400+ flights a day. Much easier for them to handle security. Plus, they profile, which might piss off a lot of Americans.

Just heard about this. Thankfully, it seems those weapon toting f*cker didn't get on any flights. Thanks to the guys working to keep us safe, private or government.

I'm all for racial profiling for stuff like this. Who's more likely to blow up the airplane, grandma Pearl with a box of cookies or the middle-eastern guy in the "I hate America" T-shirt?

Harsh, but true.

Occam's Razor.

I suppose it *could* have been an isolated incident. It *could* be a criminal act. It *could* have nothing to do with terrorism. But let's be real here, very public shooting, LAX, El Al desk, 4th of July. To believe it's a simple criminal act requires a leap of faith far beyond what most of us are prepared for. Any sort of attack against the infrastructure like travel, power, food availability, civil leadership, etc, has got to be viewed as terrorism-related until proven otherwise.

so is there any info on who was the shooter? Bluntly, was it another arab??

That's what an eye-witness who was 15 feet away from him said (this guy wasn't American, sounded German had a very, very thick accent and spoke...not so great English) he wasn't white, he wasn't dark, he was middle, Arabic.

yeah it does seem like it was an arab male who was responsible for this mindless shooting. Dang! I am unemployed and was hoping against hope that nothing untowards would happen so that the economy will improve a bit and so I will have better job prospects.
