I'm in the market for a new range bag. The one I'm using was a free gift from the NRA for renewing a membership and it's falling apart (what do ya know, cheap gifts, lol).

My bro has a Midway USA range bag and it's big and seems to be really well made. I'm just wondering what other options are out there.

The Maxpedition Compact Range Bag looks alright but as with Maxpedition products, it's rather pricey.

What do you guys use? Thanks for any info!

I bought a heavy duty zippered nylon(?) tool bag from one of the big boxes (Lowes, Sears, HD). A lot cheaper than what you're looking at.

I bought one at a gun show decades ago. Very heavy duty and still looks good after all these years. I sometimes use it as an overnight bag too. It gets a fair amount of use and will hold a very heavy load securely (like 4-5 handguns and 7-8 50 round boxes of ammo).

Check out cabelas. They have what you're looking for.

Yeah Jules, Cabelas is a good idea. Guess I'll have to take a trip there.

L.A. Police Gear I'm pretty sure I've ordered from before, years ago. Totally forgot about them, thanks man.

Handguns or rifles?

How many of each do you plan to take?

How much ammo do you shoot?

Voodoo tactical. Holds 2 long guns and my pistol (could probably fit 2-3 pistols).

Ammo stays in a separate bag

Both. I typically take a rifle/shotgun, sometimes two rifles, and a handgun.

Ammo I don't bring a ton, I tend to shoot less than I used to. Probably 50-80 rounds a rifle and 40-50 rounds a pistol.

In my current bag, I also have:
- Ear muffs
- Stapler and extra staples
- Masking and duct tape
- Shot timer
- Various papers, notepad, pen
- hickok-style earband
- Shooting glasses
- Extra foam ear plugs
- Whatever targets and magazines I'm bringing for the day

I also bring a separate Walmart plastic bag with some shop towels, CLP, lube. It would be nice to carry that in the range bag too. That is the reason I'm a bit leary on just using the spare backpack I have... I'd rather not have anything leak in the backpack (which judging from the plastic Walmart bags, something eventually does a bit).

For the range, I have a cheap ass bag that I dont mind abusing, or losing.

http://www.amazon.com/NcSTAR-CV2905-Range-Bag-black/dp/B00FSVJQ9C

I also have a huge 5.11 bag but if I fill it the thing becomes too heavy to log around. It stays at home and holds all my junk.

-- In the small range bag --

AAA fiber optic flashlight
mini multitool
My range cards and ID
prescription safety glasses from Zenni (with a mild yellow tint)
Winchester electronic ear muffs
Notepad and pen (which doesnt get used much)
targets I printed from the interwebs, https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwOTSb5p2ZNZNnJGcW1VVk5nWTg
Boresnake in whatever caliber I'm shooting
Rag (usually a big t-shirt)
small bottle of oil
Snap caps (for testing)

I leave the big tool kit and heavy duty cleansers at home. Prefer to clean the guns thoroughly in front of the TV.
If I'm not planning to use the guns any time soon, I clean them twice and put a thin layer of protectant all over them.
Otherwise just a basic 3 drop oiling.

I usually carry my pistols/rifles separately, so I have a variety of bags/cases for how much stuff I'm bringing that particular trip.

For straight range bag, I really prefer backpacks for the regular range/duffel bags since I find it easier to have weight on my back than over my shoulder. I have an old company provided backpack that I've been using for the last 5 years that I love. It is one of those "top/bottom" compartment designs with a few front pockets so the bottom pocket usually has the space for up to around 600 rounds. The top compartment for misc stuff like my ear/eye pro, holsters, mags. Front/side pockets for various cleaning supplies, bags, gloves.

Looks kind of like this with the different compartments, but it was a "laptop" design so it had a sleeve inside that I kept a stack of printed out 8x11.5 targets and drills.

Hmmm. Lotta people using backpacks.

Well I just got back from Cabela's. They didn't have very much there but I did end up picking up one of their Cabela's branded range bags. It's pretty standard range bag stuff but it's also got this pull out brass bag/compartment that I liked quite a bit. For $50 I don't think it's a bad deal and I think I'll be happy with it.

I did check out L.A. Police Gear though, and man, they have a crap ton of range bags!

I have two types for handguns. It really depends on how many guns I'm bringing with me to the range. If I'm only bringing a couple and it's just me I use..

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W2KOZ8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

If I'm bringing more than that, or if I'm bringing gear for more than myself I use...

That backpack is a beast. It carries just about everything I want it to and then some. It's a good thing I lugged around books throughout school otherwise I wouldn't be able to lug this one around. It's great for when I'm bringing a bunch of guns and ammo (was able to fit 1000 rounds of 9mm in the top pocket and still able to carry my ears/eyes/holsters and quick cleaning/tools.) for other people to shoot.

For my rifles I normally use...

I do also have a..

http://www.amazon.com/Pelican-Products-1750-Rifle-Black/dp/B000AOMA1S/ref=sr_1_10?s=hunting-fishing&ie=UTF8&qid=1438148223&sr=1-10&refinements=p_4%3APelican%2Cp_85%3A2470955011

Which is home away from home for my Noveske AR. It was a gift and it works really well. A bit overkill for taking to the range, but is TSA ready for when I travel with it.
