Sorry but XP Home is nothing more than the software equivalent of the 486SX chip. It is the exact same OS dumbed down. I'll pay the other 1/3 and get the whole OS. I do think that MS is short sighted in not being willing to price some deals for the home/enthusiast market, something along the lines of a 4 machine pool license. In the end though it is their product and they can decide how to sell it and what to charge.

XP Home is just as good as Pro lacking a few minor MS improvements that third parties software can fulfill if need it.

IMHO, most users can get by with any flavor of *NIX that can be had for free or for a nominal fee.

But the point was that most users would be fine with XP Home, the vast majority of people aren't going to use permissions or require SMP support. Sure, many of the people on AT do, but they are generally more power users than the average person who just wants to surf and email.

I got some license or something from UT just before i graduated that said i could use the MS software i bought afterward. ( all our stuff was $5.00/CD )

I got some license or something from UT just before i graduated that said i could use the MS software i bought afterward. ( all our stuff was $5.00/CD )

yup, i graduated from UT in 03...i signed an agreement that says i could use the software even though i was no longer a student
