I can't wait to have a North Korea in the middle east.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Defying week-old U.N. sanctions over its nuclear program, Iran promised to expand its atomic research Wednesday as its president vowed to punish the West and force it to "sit at the negotiating table like a polite child" before agreeing to further talks.

Yes, but I would also realize that the West doesn't want us having nukes for a reason. Perhaps because there's severe corruption in the government and known ties to terrorist cells. Maybe we should remedy that, then go for the nukes.

Seriously, I actually wouldn't mind nukes proliferating to say.. South Korea, or other countries that have got their act together. Countries like Iran and Pakistan on the other hand...

They see "severe corruption in our government"

with ties to nations created via terrorism

I would never trust anything to do with the West if I was Iranian

I know.. people can say I am a kook.. but look up
Operation Ajax

^^ USA and Britain don't exactly have ANY moral high ground in Iran..

The fact is and remains, Iran pursuing the peace time benefits of nuclear power for electrical power generation is total legal.

Sadly, in such a program, the later options always exists to also go for a nuclear weapons.

But as it is, that decision point for Iran is years into the future.

And as long as Iran is still in compliance with the IAEA, is a better option than having Iran
withdraw from the NPT treaty.

As for Israeli panic mongering, why should anyone pay any attention to them, because they never worked with the IAEA or signed the NPT.

While I do not like nukes in the hands of anyone the harder line thats taken against Iran the easier it is for the hardliners there to justify their actions. Iran is very close to throwing those people out. The young people of the country are biding their time. Last year was just the beginning.

If the US had played their cards right the last 8 years this would not have been a problem. The countries that do business with Iran could have made it easier for them to let go of their Nuclear Ambitions.

Warhawks are drooling over this... Watch Cheney and the like playing this up on fox. Fear fear fear fear fear fear!

Yay were back to the cold war again!!!

The hardline against Iran pursuing nuclear aspirations goes back further than the last 8 years, but one would probably never imagine that by reading ATP&N.

If there are no real penalties for what they are doing, then why should they change their actions?

So we have two options bomb them or sanctions.

Neither is a guaranteed success but option 1 guarantees another war which we can't win and can't afford.

Thanks for another useless thread.

Any war that the USA can afford is hardly big enough to satisfy its ego, so war it is then!

The nuke is a peacemaker in its own right, you really cant bully nuclear armed nations in the same manner that you can bully non-nuclear nations. Iraq if it had Nukes, would have been handled completely differently [if at all] if they had nukes.

Considering that, If I was Iran I would want Nukes. Its hard to blame them, especially when neighboring Iraq was invaded by us for the wrong reasons [no WMDS there!]. And thier leader was hung to death to boot, im sure that provided even more motivation to become Nuclear armed. Thats not considering that another Neighboring country to Iran was invaded by us aswell [Afghanistan].

There is a chance of terrorists gaining access to Nukes...But Pakistan has them aswell. There are more terrorists who originate from Pakistan than Iran, yet there was little talk of sanctioning Pakistan when rumors were going that they were developing nukes. India also has them, Korea does. Israel most likely does...And if Israel does, why shouldnt neighboring countries ? Israel in my opinion is as much of a dangerous entity as Iran is...with the difference that Israel is dangeous to Muslim states and not western states. Maybe thats why the western countries dont give a shit that Israel is nuclear armed.

The other thing to note is that Iranian moderates, went to the USA in 2001-2002 to sell
a total peace time nuclear electric generation program with terms that would put the USA in such control of Iran spent fuel rods, that Iran going on to develop nuclear WEAPONS would be almost impossible.

Sadly Dick Cheney kicked the Iranian moderates in the teeth, thus discrediting them, and Iran turned decidedly to the right by electing Achmadejhad and a hard line slate.

But make no mistake, the nation of Iran is united and committed to developing nuclear energy for electrical power generation.

Its that later gong on to developing nuclear weapons that has the rest of the world worried.

The Israeli scare scenario that Iran will put 100% of its efforts into building just one U235 based bomb to peg at Israel that is totally wacko. Especially since all of Israeli nuclear bombs are derived from plutonium bred in their nuclear reactor.

Then pull out of the NPT. Why does Iran continue to be party to this treaty if they plan to not be subject to it?

Israel will take care of the worlds problem, again. The world will fake outrage and secretly breath a sigh of relief.
