Shipping from America

Heya guys,

I'm looking to buy some used RAM, and I've had a couple of offers from people in America (I live in the UK).

I'm just hoping for some details on what happens.

Do I have to pay taxes, etc? If so, is there an easy way to work them out?

Also, someone has offered me some PC stuff as a gift. How does that work? Could it be stopped by Customs for any reason or something like that and I get asked to pay import duty?

Cheers.

Koing was kind enough to ship me a cell phone from the UK and I didn't have to pay import duties on it. Kind of backwards from your situation, but might be the same thing.

Usually if it's marked used/gift for personal use customs lets it through but once in a while they'll open it (my experience from Denmark). I know a girl who had a bunch of DVDs sent to her, she ended up paying a couple hundred $ in customs, still cheaper than buying locally though.
