shipping a laptop to India

I recently sold a laptop to an indian guy on Ebay.
Now, I am trying to find the best carrier to ship the item.

Do you guys recommend FedEx, USPS, or DHL?
Also, I need insurance. I looked at u-pic but they don't insure laptops anymore.
DSI looks interesting but their online insurance does not include Inda ... so what are my options now? :/

You'll pay through the nose shipping with FedEX or DHL. Ship it with USPS Global Priority with insurance or for $5 more, you can go with ExpressMail. I sent a laptop to my girlfriend in Australia on the 7th, it should get there tomorrow (about 5 business days).

Are you sure the buyer is legit? India and Ebay should not be used in the same sentence. It just screams scam to me. Sorry, don't have a carrier recommendation for you.

Yeah, I've had good communications with the guy, and he's been on ebay since 2005 with 100% rating.

Although like you said, I still would like to protect my butt with insurance :/

No experience with India, but I use DHL to ship all my Powerbooks to Nigeria.

From India here.... and have received a couple of electronics from US, Singapore. DHL and Fedex, both were decent for me.

However... before you ship, make it clear to the buyer that all custom duties are his responsibility.

As far as my experience goes, Indian Customs will stick him with atleast a 40% import duty on the laptop if not more.
