Shipping a Computer

I'm flying back home and wondering if it would be safe to pack up my computer and take it with me to the airport and just check it in? is this a possible way to move a computer? I have the original tower case and the packing for the case itself. But I don't have anything for the inside of the computer and last time I shipping it, some things moved around :(. Could I find some sort of packing material and stuff it in side the case between the cards and such? Would this be a viable method of moving a computer? Shipping it is almost out of the question because I will be out of the country and not able pick it up and I would like to have it pretty close until I leave.

Ideas to how this can work?

Baggage handlers can be rough with baggage, so be sure to pack it well. The airline can label your box as "Fragile," but you'll probably have to sign a waiver of some sort. You can always pack the tower box into a larger box filled with packing material (or clothing and such), but you'd better make sure what the size restrictions are by calling the airline first.
