Just look at your bill/credit card statement and you will see the $1.75 more charge.
I would go with FedEx Home if you make a delivery to a residential address.
FedEx only had declared value and that IS NOT insurance. If you want to insurance a package choose Airborne which has REAL insurance, but is more than declared value.
Rates with Airborne and FedEx are about the same.
Anything 2 pounds or under I would go with USPS.
I don't use UPS at all since the packages are more prone to being damaged and their rates are more expenisve! Why pay more for the same service, but more likely to get damaged goods?
For me Airborne package always comes in great shape and have less of that black crap on the boxes.
Airborne also charges $1.75 for delivery to a residential address.

If you want rates just go to www.fedex.com and click on calculate. Same with Airborne and UPS.
If you use Airborne's estimator make sure to deduct the $3 pick up fee they always put in the esitimates.

I got the same problem. I ship a lot of packages last year, and I thought that Ground is for both business & residential. So I chose Ground all the time even for residential. Then not until much later, I realized that they charge $1.75 for many of the packages, more than $200 in total. Now, I am going to Better Business Bureau http://www.bbb.org to file complaint and try to force them to refund me those charges.

Heh, I doubt that will help, because FedEx even says these estimates might not be the final standing price.
"Please note Rates shown here may be different than the actual charges for your shipment. Differences may occur based on actual weight, dimensions, and other factors. Consult the applicable FedEx Service Guide for details."

I called Fedex, and they told that if you print out the Fedex shipping label online, there won't be surcharges for your packages if you go to Fedex staff center, dropoff box or Kinko. Is it true?

Somehow, I thought all along that only Fedex staff center has no surcharge if you print fedex shipping label online.

Since I have a Kinko's within a mile of my home, I've been shipping out the items I've sold on the FS/FT forum via FedEx ground and never had anything but happy buyers so far.

Concerning Home Delivery, I did once have the guy drop off someone else's package along with a big pile of boxes from Newegg that were for me. I let the package sit for a week, waiting for FedEx to get in touch with me after I sent them an e-mail about the incorrect delivery. I finally wound up looking up the phone number for the shipping store that sent it out on the net and calling them to see if they could give the intended receipent a call. They did, and the guy came over to my place to pick up his package. If I hadn't given the place a call, the package would probably STILL be sitting in my house.

While it is true that FedEx ground and home delivery are contract employees, they still have to meet the FedEx standards. Both FedEx and UPS have an additional charge from home delivery, but there is no extra charge for signature on delivery by FedEx (it is standard policy to require a signature). Additionally FedEx Ground and Home Delivery are being intergrated into FedEx's Customer service system, and the same policies regarding service commitment are there.

Finally FedEx and Kinko's are not partnering up.. FedEx owns Kinko's now... FedEx purchased Kinko's in January 2004...
