Shim problems...

I got my 1700 b from svc today w/ a xp shim from them aswell. It doesn't seem to fit though. I got this shim Should I have gotten this one?

I get it, a different one for the Pally chip, one for the Tbred chips, and probablyone for the Barton line. I'm not sure, but it looks like you have a pally, and got the shim for the Tbred.

lol, actually I got the shim for " Athlon XP processors up to XP2100+" for a tbred-b.

Youdon't need the shim. Lose it and don't worry. Shims tend to make the cpu run hotter.

This is true. I've always just used the standard retail hsf, don't even replace the thermal pad, and never had a problem with any chip, Tbird, Pally, Tbred or Barton.

Yeah, I can handle no shim, just a precautionary measure. My old tbirds used to chip a lot from constant hsf and waterblock changes and the sk7 I just got is pretty big and intimidating :D
