i want to get a shift knob to replace the giant eraser that is in my scion TC. This is my first stick shift car so i have no previous experiences with aftermarket shift knobs. scion offers 3 OBX knobs that are straight copies of the momo knobs costing about half of the momo ones. i'm not sure if i should get one of those or the real momo, or another brand. opinions over at scionlife are split about the scion/obx knobs. some say they're crap, some say they're good... any opinions?
 
It's a Scion, buying a real Momo shift know is a waste of cash IMO zaku 🙂

It certainly is, but keep in mind, small things like this can be nice changes that don't cost much either. Personally, I think it's a nice change as long as it still blends in.
 
Can't tell ya except that I have a Momo Race Air Leather shift knob and think it was worth every penny. It helps though that it's the special Subaru one that matches the factory Momo steering wheel in my WRX. Some people think they're simply bling, but I think that a weighted shift knob with a better grip (over the OEM knob) makes for a better shifting feel.

You want to go to an auto part store and check a few out. See what feels right in your hand.

OBX makes some reasonably solid products, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

What's your budget?

my budget is around $50 - $75 i guess. no real budget really, but i don't want to spend over $100 like i see some MOMOs go for.

Look around, that should be enough to buy most Momo models. Mine costed about $63 or so.

It definitely makes a difference in the feel of the shift. How much depends on how stiff your shifter linkage is. This being said, I'm not sure how necessary knob quite that heavy (>1lb) is.

Do you plan on installing a short throw shift kit? That tends to increase the stiffness of the shift action.

yea i do. the stock shifter sits real high. i seen pictures of others with short shifter and it looks real nice, lowering it about 2".

If it's countersunk, weighted, or just more comfortable in the OP's hand, it could very well make the lag between shifts less...so yes, it could make the car faster 😎
