Shift Delete

ALT + D puts focus on the address bar in pretty much all applications. It's especially handy in windows explorer because I use the keyboard when navigating folders almost exclusively.

One thing I discovered is that you can hold down shift and then flick the mouse wheel to fly back through your browsing history.

I haven't used it much frankly, its a bit imprecise.

I use shift delete all the time.

If i type the url wrong, I quickly hit esc so that the page doesnt load.

When I hibernate my laptop, i quickly hit the windows key, u, h.

Some were mentioned before, but in FF use Ctrl-W to close tab, Ctrl-Pg Up & Pg Down to switch between tabs, or Ctrl-1-9 for that particular tab. Ctrl-L to highlight the address bar, and Ctrl-K for the google address bar.

For those using Opera, search shortcuts are the greatest thing since slice bread. I have "g" assigned to google, "t" to torrent spy, "r" to rottentomatoes, "w" to wikipedia, "d" to dictionary. That can be easily remedied.

I have a lot of custom shortcuts set up in MS Word.

Ctrl+D = Degree symbol
Ctrl+P = Plus/Minus
Ctrl+M = Greek Letter Mu
Ctrl+< = Less than or equal to
Ctrl+> = Greater than or equal to

Probably others. I know where they are when I need them.

It would be cool if someone had an add-on for Word that typed Greek letters after hitting Ctrl-G just like in Mathcad.

On XP home with fast user switching enabled, this shortcut switches you out of the current user's account while leaving everything open.

Firefox does searches like that. Type "wp apple" as an example to take you automatically to a Wikipedia page. "dict apple" will take you to a dictionary page. "imdb Grease" will take you to an IMDB page. There are a lot of search engines that work like that, and you can even get more.

Yes. Press alt, space, N. For Firefox, you have to press alt then space relatively quickly.

Another one that I use a lot in word is:

Alt+Shift+- for a non-breaking hyphen (good for negative signs and things like part numbers)
Alt+Shift+[space] for a non-breaking space (good for if two words look odd when they are apart, like St. Louis)

Yeah, I'd like Firefox also. And Flash while we are at it. I'll just send a message to IT saying that my 'net time is being hindered by my limited install ability. I'm a contractor and am lucky to have web access at all.

That's a bit awkward with my left hand.

Edit: Shift with my right hand makes that a lot more natural since I always hit Ctrl Esc for the start menu anyway. I hit Ctrl-Esc with my left hand as my right hand moves from the keyboard to the mouse in one natural motion. I haven't actually clicked on the start button in years. I just tried it now and it feels weird.

You can right-click any text box in Firefox and do "Add a Keyword for this search..." It pops up a Bookmark thing, and whatever you put in the Keyword field you can use for this (e.g. if you went to rottentomatoes, did that, and put "rt" as the keyword, you could go to the address bar and do "rt moviename").

ctrl-c and ctrl-v FTW! Alt-F4 is another good one. I also use ctrl-shift-esc to get to the task manager and ctrl-esc for the start menu. Oh yeah and alt-tab to switch windows.

One more. Opera has this cool thing I found the other day. You can hold the right click button and use the scroll wheel to select which tab you want.
