Pay to Play AND Pay to Win!!!

Slightly sensationalized, but laughable given all the... how shall we say, "gripes"? ... about the F2P "cash" model none the less.

*yawn*

Well, that article itself does mention mostly they are looking at cosmetic items, and name change kind of things for the cash shop. So, pay to win isn't entirely accurate.

I don't much mind a cash shop in a p2p game, as long as thats all it is. When/if it DOES become p2w (especially if it's p2p and p2w), I'd pretty much write it off.

I think I'd prefer this to be p2p.....as long as the content is actually worth 15 dollars a month. I've been a fan of the elder scrolls way back since Arena. And I'm generally excited about being able to play it in mmo fashion. And, I think the world, lore, and such lend itself well to an mmo.

But, I'm rather cynical, and I'm not convinced they'll crank out a game thats actually WORTH 15 dollars a month.

Well, that and the character designs will probably look like death eating a cracker....as per usual for the elder scroll franchise. I suppose it wouldnt hurt to see if they have any screen shots of the current designs, to either validate or dismiss that though.

Theres more than just screen shots, there is a rather long gameplay video from one of the recent gaming conventions (I think it was QuakeCon but not positive). The character designs, and everything else tbh, look quite rough, but we are a long way from release still so I wouldn't read too much into it just yet.

IF its a good game i don't mind paying $15 a month. hell i have been doign it for years with wow.

Though if it sucks i wonder how they will do. they do have success with past games (thanks to mods that is). Even though the games have been buggy messes.

wonder how they will do without the mod scene to save them?

Do several emails about having to change over to an ISO9001 development process and whatnot count as important?

:sneaky:

I don't think so. I may actually have an Outlook rule to delete anything with "ISO" or "process" in it.

I don't think I can comment on whether or not the email that I may or may not have gotten yesterday is something that I can comment on ()🙂

The one I may or may not have gotten leads to site that may or may not work. Mostly not, so far.

An MMO IP that hardly anyone cares about on a MMO making the old mistakes again committed by a line of failed WoW-killing predecessors. So, tell me how is that not going to bomb harder than Hiroshima.

Something is eventually going to knock WoW off its perch. I have no idea whether this is the game, and I doubt anyone else does either. From what I have seen and read this game has some interesting aspects of the alliance war that, if done well, could make a big difference.

got the invite email yesterday. then I read/remembered that this game will be $15 a month. dunno if i'm gonna bother anymore. :~

The game that is going to knock WoW off the throne isn't going to be a WoW clone. WoW murdered the other's before it because they did something different and better. It didn't clone EQ or UO and just change the textures. They streamlined a lot of what was 'wrong' with previous MMOs and made it available for the masses. Nothing since has really distilled the experience any more.

You will be disappointed then. The 3 hours I got to play was same boring things in other MMO. Go here, do that, kill this many animals, etc.

Shame. I miss the old EQ days where it was hard to do things great. Where it almost forced you to group/be social. I use to login and just chat with people.

The studio that made all the previous Elder Scrolls games isn't making this game, so to say I have doubts in TESO would be an understatement to say the least.

A Skyrim that you can play with friends is what I think most TES players are hoping for, especially the console crowd that has no experience with MMO's. But from everything I've seen and heard so far, they'll instead be getting World of Warcraft reskinned to the Elder Scrolls universe and designed for a controller.

Maybe it'll be phenomenal, but I am seriously skeptical...
